OT: Xbox 360 Live Set Up

Post#1 » by James1980 » Thu Sep 25, 2008 4:07 pm

I feel like some of you guys cause I got a 360 last night. Previously I was playing original Xbox and my son's Wii. Unlike you guys, I have no idea how to set it up so I can play online. I have a Dsl that hooks up to the computer. So I need to get a router that hooks up more than one, correct? And a network adapter or something to plug into the Xbox? Thanks a lot for your help.

The 360 already has a NIC so you just need to run a network cable from the router to the 360. If you get a wirelss router and want the 360 wireless you need an adaptor. Unless the newer 360's have built-in wireless. I'm not sure what the newer modles have. You'll also be able to connect the Wii wirelessly.

Thanks! The computer is upstairs and the Xbox will be in the living room so I was thinking wireless.

The website says it needs an adapter and is only compatible with the Xbox 360 Adapter for $99.99. Is that true or can I get a different one? Thanks.

Maybe you can get a wireless adapter for your computer for cheaper than that, and then keep the router by the xbox.

There are other, cheaper wireless adapters. But when I bought one of those I couldn't get it to work. So I bought the MS one and it worked easily. But I know people who bought the cheaper ones and they worked fine so maybe I just got a bad one, I don't know.

Once you have it set up you'll love XBOX Live.

The MS version is just a USB wireless adaptor, correct? Can you use any USB wireless adaptor or are they special to a 360?

I connected an ordinary USB hub to my 360 to plug in a mini-USB cable for my camera and an iPod cable so I know you can use any USB hub.

Just curious. I'm hardwired now and it works fine for me.

You're a Genius, I can get a wireless adapter for the computer for $55.

Im all setup, James641. Thanks for the help. Does anybody know if you can do a Madden league where 2 of the players use the same 360? I'd also join a realgm Madden or 2k9 League.

i assume someone's going to start a 2k9 league fairly soon.

my madden question is this. when you go into your leage to find someone to play, how do you know who's online? do you have to just add everyone to your friends list?

Just a headsup, next month the whole XBL interface is going to change. It looks pretty cool from what I've seen of it.
