Game 3: Flames being un-lit torch

Post#1 » by GRADEN » Tue Oct 14, 2014 10:47 pm

Wednesday night at the UC

Well TNBT u said u like mismatches.... Here is another. While not as bad as the Sabres, the Flames certainly will be picking top 10 this year. Hillier comes in after an up and down career with the Ducks and we will finally see if Mason Raymond is as good as I always thought he could be. He and Giordano are quite good but the support just isn't quite there this year. This is an 80-85 pt team, mark it down.

Hawks 3-1

Goals Saad, Shaw, and Toews

Goal / score predictions guys?

Thanks for doing the game thread GRADEN. I've finally got my AppleTV working, and am looking forward to seeing us roll over Calgary. I'm not really sure about a score prediction, but I am very psyched about getting a chance to see TVR play. I hope Rundblad or Cuminskey don't get the spot instead. Anyone think Richards will do back to 2C and Shaw back to 3C yet?

TvR is amazing u will love watching him play... He appears quite big in the sweater despite his 6'2 190ish listings.... Cuminskey is in plain clothes and Runblad has played awful so far so don't worry about them getting more ice than TvR. He is intrenched in that 5th Dman position for likely the rest of the season. I predict Kruger gets traded around games 25-45 for a vet Dman in his last year. Rasmussen can take Krugers spot as he is an elite PK center man.... Yes elite I said it... I know his game, he can become a stud specialist in the league as both maning the point in the PK as well as being a big bodied annoyance around the crease... He would make 25 opening day rosters in this league NO QUESTION

And no to Richards on the 2nd line.... We just scored 6 goals and he was a -1.... Shaw is clearly the better player and u will see that tonight. He is opportunistic but I do not see him making plays on his own as much as Shaw often creates "havoc" for oppositions

It's great that Shaw has shown enough offensive punch to be promoted to the 2nd line, but on the other hand, does Richards have the defensive game to fit in on the 3rd line? We know he can play on scoring line, but if he doesn't have the defensive nous to keep the 3rd line effective, then I'm not seeing how we can afford to not drop Shaw back to the 3rd line. I haven't seen Richards play this year so I don't know much about his game, but I guess we will find out based on how the 2nd and 3rd lines function for the rest of the season.

Kane, Saad and Shaw just works really well. I don't think you mess with it at this point.

True, you don't try and fix something that isn't broken. I'm just looking forward to seeing how this all pans out over the course of the season. That's one of the things that I love about hockey - the ability to completely mix up lines and defensive pairings from one game to another, and seeing how that can completely change the way a team plays.

How are you watching from Turkey? I'll be watching live. If you have any questions about rules or what's going on- feel free to ask me here. Enjoy the game!

I grew up going to the old Stadium with my Dad. We went to a lot of Hawks games. Some of my earliest memories are walking up many, many, many, many (yeah, that many) flights of stairs, thinking I would be so far away from the players when I got there.. Then I finally pop out into the 2nd balcony and see that the ice is so close and vivid, that I could probably spit and hit it. At the old building, the seats went straight up and not as much out. the balcony's practically hung over the ice. We had 1st row in the 2nd balc. Anyway, that was a great spot to watch and learn hockey from. It was so exciting.

This was a crappy game to see for your first. Even though we just tied it up and maybe got a break on it. Just been a sloppy, low energy game. Hopefully we get a good finish, or you get to see the Hawks win in OT or a shoot out. But, don't let this game discourage you from watching hockey, it gets much, much better.

Oh Kaner was so close to winning it right there with less than a second to go

AT least the OT was exciting even though we lost. The Hawks really dominated the play all night . They had close to 50 SOG but just couldn't find the back of the net.

Yea odd game really... Carcillo should be celebrating a hat trick, Richards should be chewed out but he is a long time vet so he won't, and sharp has 21 shots in 3 games....

Thanks for the chime in sirius, typically just the three of us.... Where is "worldsports" or something like that from years ago... Wasn't he the forum leader? It changes so much in my decade plus here. Well I come and go as my family grows so I lose track when I take breaks....

So Richards on the checking D line is a bad idea and he isn't as good as Shaw for the scoring line.... We are a legit contender so we are buyers of vets not sellers.... Where does that leave us? I'm guessing this is Qs issue too.

50 shots - 1 goal. Wow. Should have been 4. I simply think we just had the wrong guys in when the right pucks came about... Carcillo plays hard, is in perfect position, just doesn't have the offensive "feel" for the puck... Not to say he is bad, but not a natural for finding the puck ya know.

Saad had an insane 1st half to this game... His drag moves are super improved and I'm re-thinking my early critiques... Really impressive first 30 for saad, agree?

Currently I'm in the Netherlands for my education but it's still Europe and I just find a stream to watch it. It started at 2 am, so I didn't see the whole game but actually it was really fun. At this stage I don't care too much if the Hawks lose but I would have preferred if it was a win. And how come nobody posts in this forum? As far as I remember from the last championship parade pictures there was a huge crowd wearing red in Chicago. Only 3 of them posts here? It's weird. I thought hockey was popular!

Make no mistake this is a huge hockey town. Big Blackhawks town. They are very popular and it's the hottest ticket in town right now. BUT, there just aren't many hockey fans on RealGM.

Glad you enjoyed the game. Watch a few more, start to understand the rules, and you'll be hooked in no time. Keep posting here. We need more Hawk fans. Also, GRADEN is very knowledgeable about the NHL and you can learn a lot just from reading his posts.

Well, I checked the schedule and I see that next game is on Saturday at home against Nashville, who is 1st in the division for now. It looks like it'll be a good game. I'm gonna watch it and be here. Are they rivals? Or to put it another way, which teams are rivals of Blackhawks?

Thanks Johnny, nice of u... Also my sons name fwiw lol

Hmmmm well the don't care if they lose at this point comment is troublesome for our online relationship going forward lol, but yes I'm here if u have any questions about basically anything from just the hawks to minor leagues, the draft, rules, or cba restrictions / salary cap. I am a Hawks die hard.... I went to about 20 games a year for 8-9 seasons before moving and the madhouse just rocks during games. This forum was an after thought in lue of the popularity of the bulls board... As one of the original posters to the bulls board I can tell u that the hawks were an afterthought when the old man kept the hawks off TV... When rocky brought us into the light, people started taking notice even though we were awful at that point as quickly as 7 years ago we were banking on Tuomo Ruutu's potential to pair with a hopefully healthy and newly signed Marty Havlat... As talented as those two were (and we are talking elite talent) they simply were never 100%... We took Toews 3rd and then Kane 1st in 2 seasons and the rest came together.... Credit the front office for one huge move that was odd at the time.... Letting a coach and hawk legend go with a good start to get a proven winner in coach Q... Those 3 moves sealed our fate in where we are today.... That and the fact Hossa got in before the cba changed to 8 year maxs made us whom we are now....

Hope that caught u up. Read the preview post, get to know the guys that way :)

Great to have you on board Sirius. As has been said, it' usually only the three of us (myself, johnny and GRADEN) who post here regularly, and it would be great to get another Hawks fan into the fol. If you have any questions about the rules or the team, feel free to ask them here. I'm an Aussie so hockey isn't a common sport here, so years ago when I started getting into the game (as a Wings fan back then) I found that there was a lot of really helpful posters on different forums when I had questions. I hope that we can provide that same help and info for you.

Funny... Ruutu is only 31! Crazy, seems like ages ago we stole him at 9 after many thought he was a legit top 3 prospect. He has battled health his entire career and while always a good player,,,, never a top line guy. He scored 23 goals as a rookie and I, like many, thought he'd be a 300-400 career goal guy.... Just didn't pan out. Shame ya know...

Yeah, I loved Ruutu. I always wanted to see him develop into a stud. Same with Daze... if those two could have stayed healthy, the Blackhawks could have been a lot better.
