Kings VS Vancouver Round 1

This is an intriguing matchup of two teams with a lot to prove this postseason.

The Canucks are a team that fancies itself a Stanley Cup contender, but they couldn't put away a youthful Chicago team in the second round a year ago and enter the playoffs with a top-end goaltender that may or may not be suffering a crisis of confidence.

The Kings, meanwhile, are in the playoffs for the first time since 2002 and appear on the cusp of finally realizing the considerable potential they possess after years of floundering in the bottom end of the Western Conference standings.

There is a strange optic about this series. At first glance, the Canucks would appear to be prohibitive favorites with the NHL's points leader, Henrik Sedin (112 points), leading a deep, balanced offense and netminder Roberto Luongo holding the fort. Yet the Kings finished just three points behind the Canucks with 101, marking the first time they reached the 100-point plateau since 1990-91.

With veteran players like Ryan Smyth, Rob Scuderi and Justin Williams on board and both teams wondering about their goaltending, this series may not unfold as many would assume.

Time for Capn Canada, Skuds, OD, and Handzus to impart their wisdom and experience to the young guns.

It's on DD! haha :P

Good luck to the Kings. I'm dead sure this going to be a tightly, well played series. I'm thinking it goes to 7 games.

Thanks Doc, I'm sure you'd feel different about the luck if you guys were in the hunt, but we'll have your ol' Captain Smyth going to battle with us.

I don't see us able to blow anyone out of the water in any series this year, but I do think we have a punchers chance in this series and beyond if we get beyond this.

I appreciate the kind words and I'll forward on the congrats to my cousin.

I may live in Edmonton but I'm a die hard Canucks fan. ;)

By the way, this is an insane game going on right now. Going to be a great series.

Wow 41 saves by Quick.... all I can say is they are powerful on offense... we need to disrupt their shooting onslaught in game two.

i agree- gonna be a good series.

Anze "Raccoon Jesus" Kopitar for the win! man this series has been ultra competitive. I see more OT in the future.

Series is all tied up and ready to move on home to "we love it-ville"

yeah, tough loss but the kings have definitely shown that they can play with the canucks. looks like a series where the team that hustles the most will win the game.

two big where we were up early and let it slide were the difference in the series. That's youthful mistakes I guess. At least we were right there and have a bright future.

Bring in Brayden Schenn and Tuebert!

Was an amazing series. All the young guys got some real valuable experience. Next year should be a good one for them.
