Gasol and Martin cost 30mil. That is more than our current starting lineup. The combination of a 31 year old that doesn't play a position of need and a 29 year old that plays no defense with a history of injuries is not good investment for a young team.

williams, beasley, barea is way too much to give up for Gasol. williams/barea is more than fair.
The Lakers are the ones getting the big prize (howard), they should not be getting the best end of the deal value-wise.

I'd do Williams/Barea/Miller.

pau has a 15% trade kicker. IF we could get him to waive that, his 19 mil salary puts us at 61 million in guaranteed 2012 salary assuming beas/william/barea are sent out. We will essentially be capped out for the 2 remaining years of Pau's deal, which means no $ or trade assets to find a wing.
If we can't get him to waive it, it adds 2.85 million to his 2012 salary and 2.89 mil to his 2013 salary, meaning we'd be paying him 44 million over the last 2 years of his deal.

IF we get Gasol, Miller's contract might have more value to us than Beasley's. There might be more teams out there interested in Miller's unguaranteed deal in a trade vs. doing a S&T with Beasley. If we combine Webster and Miller's unguranteed deals that's basically like having 9M in raw cap space to offer in a trade.

Both Miller and Webster have to be waived before July so there's no time for a S & T.

After the season is over you can trade Miller and Webster for an existing contract.

this trade won't make the wolves a top-tier western conference team (for long, at least), and it certainly won't prepare them for the future.

Well, it's true you wouldn't have any cap flexibility, but I don't think you'd be paying anymore than you are now considering all the players leaving + the other players who are expiring (Tolliver, Randolph, Ebanks)
