His shot looks waaaaaayyyyyy better, that's for sure. I figure, though, it's going to take a while for him to consistently apply these shooting mechanics in game.

Wow. That form looks WAAAAY better than it used to, especially the spot up 3.

Edit:

compare that 3 point form to this:

Wow, that second one was almost painful to watch :D

Good to see him improving. But if it only took a good shooting coach to turn him into Steve Nash, then I'm sure someone would have tracked down that coach in the past 9 years he's been a pro.

- Rubio, Wolves At Standstill On Extension Negotiations -

Ricky Rubio is at a standstill in negotiations with the Minnesota Timberwolves regarding a contract extension.

The Timberwolves were recently reported as offering Rubio a new deal in the neighborhood of four years and $48 million.

Rubio has said he hopes to stay with the Timberwolves.

Yeah, sounds like what most people expected.

Either Ricky takes the 4 years/$48m now or he plays this season and proves he is worth the max. Which if he does, RFA shouldn't even be an issue next offseason.

But if he stays on the same level as before, we could get him for 10 easily imo.

Yep, the market would set his value and I don't think there'd be a max offer elsewhere if he doesn't improve this year (which I think he will).

10 mil is a pretty good deal for Rubio value-wise but if he doesn't improve his shooting, wolves should just look elsewhere. Financially it is a good deal but it would be smarter to prioritize the spot in wolves future core over money with this youth movement that we got going on. Wolves aren't going to win the championship any time in the near future, they would be wise to make the future core as dynamic and versatile as possible. If he becomes noticeably better at scoring, I wouldn't mind seeing Rubio get a bit overpaid but at this point there should be no middle ground in my opinion. The dilemma that Rubio brings to a team runs very deep and franchises will basically have to construct their entire team around him (and find starting sharpshooters at multiple positions). Just not worth the trouble if he's not capable of scoring or shooting.

There are already improvements evident in his shot. It may take a while for the percentages to come, but the form is like night and day.

I think the Timberwolves would be silly to decline Rubio a 5 year contract for a lot of reasons, but one reason I don't see being discussed too much is that during the next 5 seasons, he'll be right smack in the middle of his prime - ages 24 - 28. He'll play the best basketball of his life these next 5 seasons so long as he avoids the injury bug.

I like the look of his base/legs as he is getting much wider and better balanced while generating the force out of his legs so it's not so much of a "fling".

I went to a Twolves @ Mavs game Rubio's sophomore season, right before he came back from his injury. Rubio came out prior to warmups to do some light running and get some shots up. He made 11 3's in a row at one point. A good portion of them were from the wing/corner. I was shocked. I guess he's just been a really bad game shooter. I've known players who could win any 3 point or FT shooting contest against anyone in practice, but come gametime, they couldn't make any open shot to save their life.

Really looking for a step up in Rubio's game this season.

The biggest thing I'm noticing from Ricky these past few games is getting to the free throw line. 18 FTAs the past two games.

While I've only seen two games this pre-season, he has also looked much more aggressive going to the rim for a lay up.

I think he should use more of that reverse layup that we've seen here and there over the years. He can always get a couple opportunities during a game when he drives close to the baseline and the defense looks for him to pass, and it helps keeping his shot from being blocked.

And please, Penberthy and co., tell Ricky to stick to his set shot for now. He has plenty of chances where they give him the time and space to try to score without forcing the issue, he's just not a good shooter off the dribble. I'd assume everybody knows that by now.
