J Rose: Don't be surprised if Ricky misses all next season

Postby Calinks on Wed Apr 11, 2012 12:26 am

Said it can take 12 months to recover and 12 months to get back. Damn Jalen, why you gotta scare people like that?

This was my first thought when I heard ACL, normally that is a two season injury (first season a complete miss, second season a rehab and getting back to shape season.)

I heard it was not a complete tear though so I am hoping Ricky will be back mid-season, then spend the second half of the year getting back into game shape before ripping the league to pieces in 2013-2014 season!
"Will these guys be back?" Robinson wondered aloud. "You bet. I don't think they're satisfied with what they've accomplished so far."

Didn't an article just pop up on here with Ricky saying he might miss some of training camp? Obviously he's looking at best case scenario and it's early, but he's in and out of the doctors office so he must be getting some positive feedback.

He won't miss all of next season unless he reinjures it in rehab or something.

Well, it exists the possibility of Ricky never will be the same player and it exists the possibility of Ricky can play some minutes since the start of next season and full recovered at end of Dec or early Jan.

Rose's possibility is in the middle of both, perhaps nearer of the pessimistic extreme.

I would be satisfied if he could play the second half of the season at his level, and IMO this is the more likely option, and I'm not being too much optimist. But if exist some risk maybe Rose's opinion is the right choice for Ricky career because he is still very young. if Ricky loses the entire next season I will feel bad for the team.

Anyway, Rose, you and me haven't enought data about the injury. I've heard Ricky will have the first medical check in 3 weeks and for now we only can talk about rehab stats of this kind of injuries.

Wes Welker suffered the same injury (torn ACL and MCL) in week 17 of the 2009 season and was able to play week 1 in 2010, and he plays in a sport and position that's much more taxing on the knees than Rubio.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rubio is ready to go by opening day of the next NBA season. Hopefully he'll be cleared to go through non-contact (or even contact) stuff by training camp.

Rose is a moron. This little nugget, like everything he says that isn't head bashingly obvious, just flies in the face of conventional wisdom.

Brewer and Jefferson had similar if not the same injuries, no? And how long did it take them to come back? Not 2 freaking seasons, I can tell you that.

If he means back to FORM then, well, yeah probably. But if its missing the entire season then I'm going to brush this off like I do everything else that Rose says.

I think I'll trust Dr. Steadman over Jalen Rose on this.

Unless something goes wrong, nobody misses more than 12 months anymore. It does sometimes take a full season of playing to look like the same player, but I have no doubt that Ricky will be on the court before the end of the year.

10+ years ago I'd agree with him or atleast more than I do now. ACL reconstructive surgery has gotten better. It used to take 12 months to get back to game shape, now it seems like it's down to 9 months give or take. He'll be a step slow next year, might hurt his D and his steals might drop because he's not as quick. But thankfully, his knee shouldnt affect his passing. Season 13-14 should be 100%. I think Wes Welker is a good sign. Might be a freakish ability to heal, but they're both light players who need speed and quickness. The fact that Ricky isnt 250lbs will help him. He'll play next year!

i don´t know who J Rose is but man, If you don´t know, don´t speak. This is a very common injury in many sports and normal life (even my dog has torn his ACL reciently!!! - BTW, after surgery it took him just 2 months to run and jump like a maniac again, it seems that dogs get recovered faster. Their surgery is not a reconstruction though).

Of course it could take him 2 years to come back, he could also fall from a window and break all his bones. Then the recovery time would be slightly higher. The thing is, if everithing went ok, he should be back in 9 months, fully recovered. If something goes bad he won´t, but that applies for all human beings of this world (J Rose included).
