Derrick Williams: Time to Move On?

Post#1 » by aaa » Thu Aug 9, 2012 2:29 am

I'm a Derrick Williams fan who is building up some resentment because of the way his short career has played out in MN so far. I just wanted to get a pulse on the fanbase's feelings toward Williams.

Is it time to move on? Do you want him traded? Or do you want him to stay?

I'm in the category that believes Williams can still be a star.

He has had 1 year, and that year was a condensed schedule.

Way too early to give up on him.

It's time to move on if we can find a good trade. Otherwise he can stay.

The obvious follow up question is 'what is a good trade?' What kind of a package would be good iyo? I think that would speak to your opinion on D-Will more than if you want him traded, I think.

I'd be looking for a good established
player like iguodala.

I'd be happy with a mid-lotto pick.

Um. He's younger than some rookies and came in last year with no training camp, condensed season, etc. I feel this is a premature question. Although in a trade for a Iguodala-caliber player I wouldn't be opposed to trading him.

This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever read in my life. "didn't pan out"? He's played 1 year

he is probly the most talented player on the roster outside of rubio..

has alot of raw talent.. he has said he wants to stay here, and wants to play the three. idk why ppl think bball players are supposed to come from college and dominate, they are drafted based on potential. give him time to learn within our system.

i think he will make strides this year and fight for the starting job next year

I see his ceiling as an Iggy-like player who attacks more often.

Do I see him getting there? Probably not, but from my experience, shedding just 20 pounds can make you a whole lot faster. We need to give him more time. I would be pretty upset with a trade for Varejao if we were to give him up.

If Igudola or something of that caliber comes along, move him. If anything like peanuts or role players/weak picks is being offered. Hell no. That includes someone like Varejao.

Keep him unless the perfect deal comes. I would hate to see us trade D-Will for the rumoured garbage only for him to become a good starting SF. Teams give up on players too soon in the NBA.

Agreed 20lbs of fat is like night and day when it comes to your mobility.

I don't know, draft picks really haven't been our thing.

This is why it's not always smart to draft best available and work the details out later. It would be one thing if they were playing somebody at PF who wasn't in their long term plans, but we knew that Williams would never have had a spot at PF as long as Love was here and that we'd be playing him out of position. I think he needs to be traded, but he's going to become a star as a full time PF somewhere else, I hope that we can get somebody good in return.

Give him another year and if he becomes a lot better this year his trade value increases.

You guys who what to hang on to D-Will are crazy. The are NO MINUTES for this guy even if you think he can develop. It was stupid to draft him in the first place if there wasn't an immediate trade lined up.

He was BPA easy. That's the way GMs are supposed to draft now-a-days. He'll get minutes behind Love and perhaps a couple at SF. Not as many minutes as last year and he still may be traded before the season begins but he looks a heck of a lot more determined than Wes and is mentally more there than Beasley. Give a guy another season, he's 21 - it's rash to determine a guy's worth after one shortened season when he has shown flashes of his ability to be so much better.

it depends

he's on the trading block, but he shouldn't be traded for the sake of being traded.
