I don't want to trade him at all. Him developing into a top notch player is really the only chance the team has to compete for a championship, beyond keeping Love, Rubio and Pek around.

Exhibition games are just that, but Will Barton just dropped 72 points on Williams last night, although Williams isn't gonna take the full 72 on himself.

Yea didn't Beasley score like 55 points against Lebron and Durant in an exhibition game last year. They don't play any D, and it mostly comprises fast breaks and wide open dunks.

Foye, McCants, Brewer, Johnson, Ellington, Flynn, and Ebi never exactly panned out either. It's too soon to label Williams as a bust, but it doesn't help that he had a mediocre rookie season.

We'd still need an athletic rim protector, be it a SF like AK47 (only younger) or an athletic big man. If Williams pans out as a very good/great SF offensively it would be one thing but we also need a great defensive presence.

How many people think that raw PPG and RPG numbers without any information about minutes played, percentages, or advanced stats tell anyone anything at all?

Not to mention a 2 or 3 year age difference.

He may never get the chance to pan out here. Adelman does not seem impressed or too willing to find minutes for him. Kahn said after the Kirilenko signing that DW has to show he deserves minutes, so that doesn't sound like they are planning anything around him at all. They are certainly in win now mode and unless DW has made lengthy strides this off season he will most likely only see the floor for any time if we have injuries.
They don't look to have the mindset to develop anyone unless they are in fast track mode and able to deliver immediately. I think DW's best shot at really making it is to go somewhere that they have the time to let him come to his game and deal with the hit till then. That is not here any more. He has a chance to really be something but only if he can get out of here or he does the majority of his development on his own time.

Not to mention who cares? Someone else's past successes or failures have zero relevance to Williams' future successes or failures.

So Williams may not be able to score 81 points in a game?

Maybe if AK-47 hadn't been added, but they're not paying a guy Deng's salary to back up Kirilenko (or I suppose pay AK-47 his salary to back up Deng, however it would play out), especially when Deng can't play SG next to Kirilenko.

Just a sidenote:

People still hold out hope for Evan Turner. He'll be 24 at the beginning of this season.
Derrick Williams will be 21 this season and has a much higher ceiling than Turner.

We need to hold on to him and at least let him develop until he is due up for a new contract.
