11:04 AM ET 01.06 | Sources say the Cavs and Timberwolves have talked about an Anderson Varejao trade. Minnesota would probably want the Cavs to take back forward Derrick Williams, which could be a deal-breaker. The Cavs could have interest in center Nikola Pekovic, a bruising 6-11, 290-pounder. Before anyone gets excited, forward Kevin Love is not available.

I interpret that as, as well as the Bleacher Report article, that you guys want to trade us D Will only......while our preference would be Pek.

Maybe Shrink is right ... no credibility. Sounds like it came right off a fan board.

It could be Minnesota wants them to take Williams instead of Pekovic. :dontknow: Williams doesn't have much value on Adelman's team.

That was my interpretation as well.

Sadly, that last bit I quoted was the EXACT quote from the news article

http://morningjournal.com/articles/2013 ... =fullstory

Some "insider" huh?

What's the story with AV's last year being unguaranteed? The hover/pop-up thing on shamsports doesn't work on this computer so I can't see the details. Is it partially guaranteed that last year?

The article also suggest that Varejao's knee injury could be something worse than reported. So I will pass. I don't think I could handle anymore injuries.

Let me be clearer:

Do I think CLE is shopping Varejao? YES
Do I think MIN is interested in Varejao? YES
Do I think there is credibility in MSJ's report that it's Williams + Pek for Varejao? NO.

I had hoped the Cavs Insider would have more specific info, but even he doesn't. I would imagine he's a much more reliable sources than MJG.

Cav's Insider wrote:Sources say the Cavs and Timberwolves have talked about a Varejao trade. Minnesota would probably want the Cavs to take back forward Derrick Williams, which could be a deal-breaker. The Cavs could have interest in center Nikola Pekovic, a bruising 6-11, 290-pounder.

Note that he uses the words "probably" and "could," and it's listed under "Rumors" and outside the actual story.

Nobody knows the price-tag here - especially not MSJ.

Same thing happens with me at sham's site, but sometimes you can get good details from storyteller. Here's a link for your collection:

http://www.storytellerscontracts.info/resources/12-13salaries.htm

Varejao's contract wrote:Contract has a 5% trade kicker
2012-13 and 2013-14 each have up to $1,000,000 in unlikely incentives not included here
2014-15 is partially guaranteed for $4,000,000
Signed 7/10/09 for an assumed $47,954,545 plus incentives for 6 years

2012-13 $8,368,182
2013-14 $9,036,364
2014-15 $9,704,595

(before the 5% TK)

We've had such good luck with knees. For Cav readers, we've had four SG's go down with knee injuries this season.

Like I said, forget season averages on guys like this, and look at annual production.

I think a healthy Varejao would be a terrific fit next to Love and Pek, but I don't think we could ever count on him to be healthy during the play-offs.

I agree with this. I am kind of intrigued with adding him to our frontcourt (not for Pekovic), though. When Love comes back, we would have:

Kirilenko/Cunningham (Budinger)
Love/Varejao/Cunningham
Pekovic/Varejao/Steimsma or Amundson

There's enough good players and flexibility that none of them should get taxed too much with heavy minutes. His partial guarantee in 2014 makes it more palatable and fits in with Klomp's master plan.

Why would we add D-Will if it was Pek for Verajao?

Pek is better than AV, Cavs would need to sweeten the deal.

Not that I would want Pek to be traded for him anyway.

Don't know why I'm writing short sentences and spacing it out like this.

Make it a 3way deal with LA.

Minny gets: Varejao
Cle gets: Dwill/Hill
LA gets: Kirlenko

So you guys basically give up Kirlenko/Dwill for Varejao, what you guys think?

You're not very good at trade proposals.

WHAT? Ok, I'm a big Varejão fan but I agree that Peko is better even if Varejão wasn't injury prone... and why does the Lakers have to steal the best players in trades for nothing?

The rumor as I understand it is that those two names have been mentioned, not necessarily that it would be both for AV. Sounds like Cleveland asked for Pek and Minnesota countered with Williams.
