You guys seriously wouldn't trade Kirlenko/Dwill for Varejao?

Varejao would give you guys the best big 3 bigman rotation in the NBA with Love/Pek/Varejao.

If we're moving Williams + Pek, I'm expecting a fringe all-star player coming back, not a downgrade like this. Is AV a good player? Absolutely, his fit would be great next to Love but he can't stay healthy. I'd rather stand pat than take on this huge gamble and cross our fingers AV can play for over 40 games each year.

1. No.

2. We would have no starting caliber small forward.

3. Cleveland would cut the Lakers out entirely and take Kirilenko for themselves.

Why would Cleveland want Kirlenko?

I imagine if they trade Varejao they would want a younger player back in return so they can pair with Irving.Which is why I put LA in the deal,Cleveland would get Dwill and Jordan Hill back, and we get Kirlenko.

Nope, not at all. I will go out on a limb and say that Kirilenko has a higher trade value (in particular because he's at least pretty much healthy) than Varejao. We're not going to give up AK for Andy. Having to add Williams in your proposed deal is dumb for us.

You have to face it, there's no way for the Lakers to obtain Kirilenko without giving up significant pieces.

They are getting a young player in Williams. They have Zeller, they have Thompson. They don't have much help at small forward. Just because you are young doesn't mean every player on your roster has to be young. Not to mention Hill doesn't have near the value to get Kirilenko. Just like Pau doesn't.

“@JoanNiesen: Kahn said the team is talking to a number of other teams about trades, but don't expect anything in Jan. Would be closer to Feb 21 deadline.”

For one thing, because the other teams in the league aren't there just to provide ridiculous sweetheart deals to the Lakers.

So you guys basically give up Kirlenko/Dwill for Varejao, what you guys think?

I have a better idea, fork over an extended Dwight and we'll send you back Barea + Roy + Williams.

If we're looking at a Varajao type player then I's rather swap Williams for Jordan Hill and cash. He's younger, much cheaper and has no serious injury concerns. He's not as good obviously but for a backup he's more than good enough.

I hope Ricky comes back to form very quickly then because the next 20 games are going to be pretty brutal.

I think it went down like this:

Phone rings.
Kahn: "Hello"
Grant: "Hi Dave. Hey you guys interested in Varejao?"
Kahn: "Maybe"
Grant: "How 'bout Andy for Pek?"
Kahn: "How 'bout Andy for Derrick"
Pause.
Grant: "You guys interested in Casspi?"
Kahn: "Maybe. Casspi for Amundson?"
Grant: "Well it's been good talking to you Dave. Say hi to the wife."
Kahn: "You, too Chris. Talk again next month?"
Grant: "You bet."

Minnesota would probably want the Cavs to take back forward Derrick Williams, which could be a deal-breaker.

This is as far as anyone goes in this rumor before completely dismissing it as crap.

Yeah, I'm sure a young, athletic, improving PF on a rookie contract would be a deal breaker for the Cavs.

I'm beginning to think that people are confusing Williams and Cousins. Cousins is the the Kings' Center who is an inefficient major headcase and locker room cancer. Williams is the Timberwolves' PF who was recently picked number 2 overall and has been a consummate professional about his playing time so far.

If this is true I'll quit on the Wolves until Kahn is fired.

I think our collective opinion on Derrick is changing a little bit (for some it never will, and for some it was always a little bit more positive) but the rest of the league probably doesn't know that (from a fan perspective). I tend to think you hold onto him. The sell-high window is clearly closed. All that is left now is sell-low. I could actually see a lot of teams being interested as he would probably come at somewhat of a discount and still has some potential.

I think a Varejao deal would only happen (like many have said) if we know we can't keep Pek. If it does happen, please include Casspi if he is unhappy. I think he is a nice player and would have value for us. His salary would actually make the deal harder on our side though as Pek makes less than Varejao, so I wonder what more it would take.
