Give me one good reason not to be excited about Gorgui

Post#1 » by theGreatRC » Fri Mar 21, 2014 6:34 pm

"Small sample size" doesn't count.

The reason i'm asking this is because we've had many rookies in the past. I remember all of the big games from the past 5 years from our rookies, hell, I even remember Kevin Love's debut game of 9 points and 9 rebounds. I was excited as hell.

Derrick Williams flashing moment was when had that great game against the Clippers, specifically the crossover move on Kenyon Martin for the And-1 jumper. Tell me that didn't make the little guy in your shorts jump a bit.

I remember Wes Johnson's very first bucket was an AND 1 dunk against the Kings.

Rubio's game against the Thunder where him and D-Will looked like a future duo with the lobs and flair for the game.

Even Randy Foye stepping up in our fourth quarters and Jonny Flynn's game winner against Utah.

****, even Bazzy's career night against the Suns!

What i'm trying to say is...

I've had my heart broken many times with the promise of these rookies, they show us these games, but then we never see it again..

So give me a good reason why these last few games by Gorgui are just a fluke and this will all be a laughable memory years from now?

Because we've given up 250 points the last 2 games despite Dieng's reputation as a defensive center?

These are few comments in POR section.
-Remember when I wanted the Blazers to draft Gorgui Dieng? He just put up 22 points and 21 rebounds tonight!
He also held Kevin Love to 6 rebounds because he kept stealing them from Love.

-I liked Dieng too, although I would have never guessed he would score 20 points as a rookie :D. In any case, I am not sure how we could have drafted him, unless you wanted him at 10?

-I actually wanted him at 10. I knew he was better than Meyers already and center was a desperate need. And if Meyers was good enough at 11, why not Dieng at 10 since he's better. But that was all said before the Blazers traded for Lopez.
-------------
Pek will miss a few more games. We will know soon if he is the real deal but i am optimistic.
And we allowed 250points because 1st game went to overtime and in 2nd Adelman did his magic once again and destroyed the game.
Go Gorgui!!!!

I don't what the eye roll is for. It's specifically what he asked for.

Ooh, the triple haha.

The only thing I have for you RC is the defenses will adjust to him soon with scouting.

He seems to always be in the right spot and doesn't give up on plays the way Pekovic does. That's my biggest pet peeve about Pek is he's never snatching at loose balls or fighting for a rebound out of his immediate reach.

I don't know if I agree he's always in the right spot, but he tries hard and seems to be a smart player so I think he'll get there.

I think that might just be Pek knowing his own limitations. He knows that if he doesn't start running to the other side of the court immediately, he won't get their until the play is already over.

Can't think of much that you can knock him on as a rookie. Outside of continually working on his offense and getting bigger to bang some of the bigger centers in the post. The most impressive thing as others have brought up is how much he seemed to improved through the season.

With him and Shabazz added to our bench rotation next year it should be much improved.

The biggest thing will be what happens when teams adjust? Right now, nobody knows what to expect from him. Soon, he will be highlighted on scouting reports and he may get totally exposed. Same for Shabazz, as soon as teams key in on your game, you cant do the things you could before and then we get to see if you can adjust to that.

If you're a good player you'll adjust back.

Just thought of another one. Since he's a rookie, next year he will break something - bone, ligament, hip flexor - and never be the same again.

Don't get excited because he will be packaged in a trad this summer for some big name player who completely fails to meet expectations as soon as they done a wolves uniform.

dieng is the girl nobody wanted to ask for prom. pekovic rejected adelman. turiaf rejected adelman. pekovic rejected adelman again. as a last resort, adelman asked dieng to be his date. dieng took off his glasses and winter sweater to reveal the sexy beast inside of him. now all the other coaches are wondering why they didn't ask dieng to prom.
