I thought to retain a players rights the team had to offer a contract by a certain date, usually a one year guaranteed min deal, that is refused by the player. I think the OKC deal was that the player agreed predraft to refuse the deal so OKC would retain the rights. We never offered GRIII a contract and the date has now passed therefore we only retain his rights if he makes the 15 man roster. He could easily make the 15 and spend the year in the D League though.

This is my understanding of how this works but I could be 100% wrong.

Not likely this year, but very athletic, long arms, decent looking jumper, NBA bloodlines, came from big college program, dirt cheap makes him intriguing prospect.

It'd be a dam shame if we chose Robbie Freaken Hummel over GR3. I really like him.

I wouldn't worry about it, Flip was talking about him at the fair, he has plans for him.

Hummel is decent and cheap, the problem is that the bottom of the roster is stuffed with overpaid/injured/awful players like Barea, Brewer, Shabazz, and Bud.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Shabazz wasn't awful last year, not by any means, he just didn't play.

I don't understand why we signed Hummel when we did. That is the kind of move you make if you are one man short before the league is about to commence and not before you start a major roster shuffling.

Maybe it was just Wolves saying thank you to Hummel, guaranteeing him some money before sending him on his way?

Yeah, I thought it was bad timing as well. Maybe he was deciding between here and overseas and needed a decision from them?

I think Flip thought he could add Shved or Barea to the CLE deal for the NGs and create a spot for GR3

You know what's great? Shved and LRMAM aren't on that list anymore! :D

I actually don't mind LRMAM but he is definitely expendable now due to his lack of offense. I really like that Flip is trying to surround Rubio with two way players now.

Most likely.

However, I could see us waiving Budinger if he's not healthy.

Barea should be gone at one point, but he is not a problem he is expiring anyway, but you got LaVine, Martin, Wiggins, Budinger, Muhammad, Robinson, Brewer and Hummel at the wings, that's crazy, at least Martin and Brewer should be traded.
