Best case/worst case for the new kids?

Post#1 » by big3_8_19_21 » Thu Aug 7, 2014 10:15 pm

What do you guys think the best/worst case scenarios are for our young kids? Just off the top of my head:

LaVine: Roy/Turner
Wiggins: McGrady/Gay
Bennett: early career Antoine Walker/late career Antoine Walker
Robinson: Brewer with a jump shot/I don't know...Gelabale?
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

LaVine: Dr. J/Flynn
Wiggins: Jordan/Brewer
Bennet: Webber/Brand
Robinson: Sprewell/Hummel

Hahah Gelabale, he was a delightful fellow.
It is interesting that you think the best scenario for Wiggins is McGrady, I think the high ceiling comparison for LaVine is McGrady.

I had almost forgotten about Jellyball. That was a fun year.

LaVine
Best: Westbrook
Worst: Bayless

Wiggins
Best: Vince Carter
Worst: current Jimmy Butler

Bennett
Best: Prime Walker is probably good
Worst: Fat and out of the league

Robinson
Best: SF version of current Diaw
Worst: Someone who is smart, but is never assertive or talented enough to consistently make a difference. I don't know, old Michael Finley?

LaVine: Vince Carter

Wiggins: McGrady (not a huge fan of this comparison, though, since McGrady was much more skilled at passing and ballhandling at the same age)

Bennett: Barkley (After his rookie, even just writing this down strikes me as stupid, but as an extreme best case scenario.... )

This is really tough for me.

LaVine: This is really tough, since he's so unique. The comparisons of Kobe and Vince I don't see at all. They're much heavier than him and not nearly as quick, plus LaVine doesn't have the iso moves or post up game they do. Westbrook is a somewhat decent comparison, except again LaVine is much longer and not as strong.

Wiggins: I'm not as high on him as some. I watched him play a few games early on last season, and you can see he's an athlete but overall he was nothing worth mentioning offensively. I watched a scouting video on him last night, and you can see he oozes athleticism, but if you watch the clips on his weaknesses, he SUCKS. His handle is atrocious, which is why I'm not high on him.....if you can't dribble you can't create. He also will not go left, or rather can not. He's young and the athleticism is off the charts though so perhaps he could turn into more than a Corey Brewer, but that's the best comparison to me. Gerald Wallace is another one that comes to mind to an extent.

The main thing with these guys from day 1 is a running system with Rubio giving them outlet passes, or dishing it to them as they cut off the wing to the hoop or for spot up 3s when he drives and dishes. Neither one can do much other than that right now from what I've seen.

18 year olds with nothing worth mentioning offensively don't score 17+ in their freshman season in college in a team that doesn't play for them.

Iso era is over, by the way.

When LaVine went through the predraft circuit, said he likes to model his game after Russell Westbrook (athleticism), Stephen Curry (ballhandling, creating shots off-dribble) and Jamal Crawford (playmaking). Ultimately, I like the comparison to a more athletic Crawford. I don't think the Kobe comparisons (at the same age) are far-fetched either. Floor is Gerald Green.

I view Wiggins as more of a Kawhi Leonard than anyone. He doesn't have the playmaking ability of McGrady. Floor would be someone like Gerald Green, Corey Brewer or Harrison Barnes
