If ATL could weasel into the Love deal...

Post#1 » by _s_t_u_r_t_ » Sat Aug 9, 2014 6:59 pm

...is it your opinion that MIN would prefer Paul Millsap over Thad Young? What do you think? I mean, I realize Philly also has a role as a team that can accommodate some salary relief, but I'm imagining something like this:

To MIN
Wiggins
Millsap
1st Round Pick (from CLE)

To CLE
Love

To PHI
Bennett
Waiters
(add'l CLE salary relief?)

To ATL
Young

How old is he..29? I'd do it just to compete in the west, but does ATL do it?

I think so, but might need a little sweetener to get it done.

This. There's ZERO indication that Waiters will be included in the Love trade.

Actually, I've read differently, but okay, let's accept that. Ditch Waiters from the trade.

The question I'm posing is more specifically whether Millsap is more desirable than Young if ATL wanted to get involved (?).

(Um. Yeah. I think I addressed that.)

I'd rather have Millsap but I am not sure how many others feel that way.

No.

-The biggest problem most people have with Young is his expiring contract. Millsap is also on an expiring deal, and will likely cost more next summer than Young would.
-The cost to trade for Millsap is higher than it will be to trade for Young.
-Young is 26. Millsap is 29.
-Flip wants to have an uptempo team. Young fits an uptempo style better than Millsap.

I am thinking Philly's ability to take back some contracts is also an important aspect as well as Young's fit. We have a need to move on from JJ & Shved if for no other reasons than we need roster space and better balance. We are wing heavy.

This.

I just haven't been sold on the offense over defense approach. The sieve that's our front court is atrocious.

I don't see Hawks or Wolves doing this. Milsap is better than Young so why would they downgrade their PF. Secondly Young fits more in Wolves than Milsap. So bad trade for both sides.

For my part, I'm less interested in how Hawks gauge this for their purposes, and more interested in the MIN side of it. But fwiw, those ATL fans with whom I've exchanged posts consider Young a step down from Millsap, who really began to step forward as a go-to player this past season with Horford out for most of the year.

Interesting. You'd rather have Payne than Young or Bennett?

I'd much rather have Millsap than Young. You can have Muhammad too.

FWIW, I'd rather have Millsap period then Young. But I wouldn't want to give up the extra assets needed to get him if he's not excited about staying on a rebuilding team, which I imagine he wouldn't.

Okay, let's test this out... who gets the better end of this after-Love deal...

To ATL
Anthony Bennett
Gorgui Dieng
JJ Barea
Glenn Robinson III

To MIN
Paul Millsap
Mike Scott
Shelvin Mack
