Yahoo/SB Nation: The puzzle that is Anthony Bennett

Post#1 » by Buffalo_Tim » Fri Sep 5, 2014 12:56 pm

Great article that breaks down Bennett's game (with videos) and all of his strengths, weaknesses, and upside.

Conclusive quote:

More than even Wiggins and LaVine, Anthony Bennett is a mystery. His combination athleticism and skillset is genuinely unique even among the Blake Griffins and Kevin Loves of the modern NBA power forward. But is his health really a non-issue? And more importantly, can his decision-making ever improve enough to make good use of that talent?

Bennett has just about every tool you could want in an NBA big man. It's easy to see why the Cavaliers reached for him when you parse his game out. Whether he can ever live up to that standard...or even reach league average...remains to be seen. But the potential is certainly there.

His combination of athleticism and skillset is probably less than that of Derrick Williams or Beasley. I'd love for him to pan out, but I'm skeptical.

The author of that article is consistently terrible.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Yeah, I'd be shocked if he was anything more than a backup for us. I just can't stand tweener forwards. Williams and Beasley have scarred me.

I'd be happy if he becomes a reliable backup. The thing I like most about him are his handles, then his rebounding. He should focus on that.

Maybe he needs to find out what he's best at and work at that and then he'll have a basis point to begin building an NBA game.

Williams yes, because he didn't have enough SF skills to play SF, yet wasn't big enough to be an everyday PF. Beasley had/has all the tools to be a really good SF in this league, but he just doesn't care or work enough to use them.

Flip just needs to bring out the dawg in Bennett. He needs to be mean, assertive, agressive. I would make him watch clips of Faried and Barkley all day.

The problem isn't "tweener" forwards. There are no "tweener" forwards. There are undersized PFs. Beasley and Williams are both undersized PFs. The problem with them is that they were bad undersized PFs played at SF.

I am really scared of Bennett`s defense to be honest. And he costs us alot of money.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2k07zuiLP3E This is taken from only 3 games, where he "had a chip on his sholder"(damn hate this expression). Really abysmal

Bennett is a dedicated fan of the Juicy Lucy. He will love Minnesota.
