Ime Udoka - Budenholzer left, he stepped right in, was an excellent role player after carving out a career in the minor league. Played on NBA champions. Seems poised to be a good HC.

Tyronn Lue - A former NBA role player/champ with the Lakers. Was with Doc Rivers for years, now with Blatt in Cleveland. Only a matter of time before he gets a shot.

Chris Finch - won a D-League title w/Rockets affiliate in 2010, has been with the Rockets ever since. He has installed their 3/FT offensive approach.

Nick Nurse - he took over for Finch after being a consistent COY candidate in Iowa. He lead the Rockets affiliate to it's second title in 3 years, then became an assistant in Toronto. ETA: He also won the championship with Iowa in 2011 over Finch in the Finals.

I like Finch and Nurse because they follow the Karl, Joerger, Phil Jax, Flip model of coming up through the minor leagues and actually developing talent into a cohesive unit even with constant roster turnover. Udoka, I believe will be a great coach. Just too much training and a guy who got the most out of his talent. He's also been credited as one of the biggest influences on Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green becoming such strong defensive players (Spurs have the best wing defenders as a tandem in basketball IMO).

Also, if the coach is a first timer, I would prefer to see no more than one failed NBA head coach as an assistant. If you look at Joerger's staff in Minnesota, the only guy who has been the head man is Jeff Bzdelik. The rest are career assistants (so far) and Duane Ticknor was Joerger's assistant when he won the D-League championship in Bismarck with the Dakota Wizards. Better to not have someone undermining you in the long run.

Just my two cents.

Sam Mitchell is a really, really good coach. I don't see the problem with him.

A majority of the people here don't want to have anything to do with a possible player, coach or other Timberwolves employee that has or had any previous connection to this franchise or to the state of Minnesota.

I'm actually surprised fans warmed up so quickly to Wiggins, since his dad was teammates with former University of Minnesota player and current Timberwolves broadcaster Jim Petersen.

I could see Sam, Scotty Brooks (if he gets let go), or Hoiberg.

Wow, history really got tweaked in those videos. Sweet Jesus, "We kept telling Sam to double-team, but he wouldn't." Biggest load of garbage I have ever heard.

It was a lazy Toronto defense, not the coach's fault. Jalen Rose needs to get his head out of his ass and realize that his piss poor defense is why Kobe went off.

The reason players despise Sam Mitchell is because he is honest, and will get on you no matter who you are. He holds his players accountable, he gets pissed when you are lazy and most players don't like that.

And he tamed Cousins.
Is he good enough to make Flip step down midseason?

Or maybe it's because he's not a good coach? Perhaps? Possibly?

He had one good season, where he won 47 games, and the rest of his years were .500 or under. He's historically been an in-your-face screamer, which wears thin quickly no matter how good of a coach you are (just ask Scott Skiles). Then, following his firing, it took him 2 years to get an assistant job with the Nets and another 3 years to get the assistant job with us which, by all accounts, he only got because of his familiarity with Flip.

Nobody cares where the coach comes from. We just want a good one for once in our miserable fandom lives.

Flip is the coach next year, beyond that is when it will more likely happen.

Flip is going to take his time. He is teaching these young guys and building their confidence from the ground up. I think he will wait for Hoiberg.

I thought Flip would've been open to adapt his coaching philosophy, but I was wrong. It's 2k Flip all the way. Hope he'll really step back, if someone better comes along.

Doi, the next coach after Flip Saunders will be Ryan Saunders.

Too early for GM Flip to stop backing coach Flip at this point. Only chance is if owner Flip steps in and demands a change

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
