Looking ahead

Post#1 » by Screwy28 » Wed Feb 11, 2015 8:26 am

Preferred Lineup
Rubio
Wiggins
Bazz
Young----stop gap until we find out who is gonna step up and be the long term answer at the PF position.
Pek

Could this be our starting 5 next year? If we get the #1 pick we plug in Okafor into Young's spot...Or we go out and get someone else...I just really like the core of this team (Rubio, Wiggins, Bazz, Pek)

We might be the most athletic team in the NBA: Lavine, Wiggins, Bazz, Glenn Robinson III, Payne could all be contestants in the NBA dunk contest. With Rubio leading the helm this team is going to be very fun to watch for a long time.

Now what interests me is who is gonna be on our bench next year?

I would love to have Kevin Martin back and have him in the 6th man role next year to provide that scoring punch but then that'll prolly take Lavine's minutes away so itll be very interesting what they decide to do on that front.
RIP Flip, you will be missed. You created the journey and now you get to sit back and watch it unfold from Heaven. Thanks for everything, you are a staple of what every person should strive to be.

Looking ahead :

PG - Rubio / (Veteran PG)

SG / SF - Wiggins / Shabazz / Lavine / (Pure 3 pt specialist that can defend)

C / PF - (Draft pick 2015) / G.Dieng / A.Payne / Benett / K.Garnett ? / Bjelica ?

Make available for trades :

Pekovic / Martin - For the right price.

T.Young / Budinger - Make a package for this 2 and bring Garnett home (For this year and sign for the next too, to be the leader in the locker room), don't ask too much for T.young. I'm pretty sure nobody is going to give you a 1st for him.

I dont see the need to use an asset to trade Bud. Just glue his ass to the bench. Worst case, we buy him out like we did JJ. As of right now, we dont have the capspace to sign a good player in FA.

There are ~32 games left. We need to play our youngsters and tank for a high draft pick.

Use the full MLE on Gerald Green just because the dude fits the dynamic of the wings (young and athletic), just kidding though...sign Mike Malone as a coach, dude did awesome in Sac. Let Flip just GM, and use the full MLE or part of it on Beverly, Lin, or Larkin. Draft Okafur or Towns, and sign some nice vets on mins. Roll with:

Rubio/Beverly
Martin/Lavine
Wiggins/Bazz/Bud
Okafur(or Towns)/Young/Payne
Pek/Dieng
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I'd say(hope) that the MLE will be saved for Bjelica.

I want to see GR3 get quite a bit of burn over the rest of the season. He is only on a one year deal and we need to know if he is worth resigning next year as roster spots are precious. We have the 1st round pick to add plus 2 second round picks(straight cash homie? :banghead: ) so hopefully the second round picks are actually used productively whether they are consolidated to one pick in a move up, stash a player over sea to preserve roster spots - I just hope they are used.

Give AB, Payne and ZLV all plenty of burn and just use these last 30 odd games to teach the kids, grow and try and get them some momentum and familiarity going into the off season.

I doubt they can convince Beverly to backup Rubio. I think they'll end up with 3rd to 5th pick. I have a feeling they'll pick small(Russel?)
Malone would be an okay hire. Even better if he's hired as asst coach and hire Hoiberg or Izzo
If Flip doesnt do anything in the deadline:
Rubio/Russel/Brown
Martin/Lavine/GR3
Wiggins/Bazz/Bud
Young/Bjelica/Bennett
Pek/Dieng/Payne
Trust the PRosas!

I'll throw a guess out there.

say we end with the 3rd pick (Russell), and bring over Bjelica. Thad traded or opts out

Rubio/Lavine/Brown
Martin/Russell/Lavine
Wiggins/Shabazz/GR3
Bjelica/Payne/Bennett
Pek/Dieng/Payne

Martin traded before mid season after Russell takes over and Lavine shows good improvement

Wolves need 3 point, floor spacing, shooting bad, especially in the starting lineup. Bazz is probably the odd man out in that case. He's shown he can hit the 3, but most of his work comes down low. Wolves need a guy camping out there to open things up for Rubio and Pek, especially if you trade Martin.

Bringing in Payne definitely gives us some flexibility ... I suspect Thad and/or Bennett will be moved at some point. Bud is out.

Payne and Bjelica will add some needed length at 6'10" ... Pek and Dieng about 6'11" >>> Bennett, Young, Bazz (all 6'6"-6'8"). Adds up when you start adding 6'8" wings like Wiggins.

Yes, Wolves need Martin: he is proven scorer, good shooter. But he is also injury prone and cannot defend. He is good at earning FTs, but he doesn't have ball handling skills to create for himself and others. So let's be realistic, he is specific player, partially product of corner offense. If Shabazz and Wiggins can give us same production without sacrificing defense, we should definitely consider trading him. Also if Neal can revive his career in MIN I'd sign him for the same money and explore Martin trades.
