Walters: KG, Flip to form group to buy team from Glen?

Post#1 » by Klomp » Mon Feb 23, 2015 4:09 am

The contract extension Kevin Garnett, 38, will sign with the Timberwolves this summer will be for two years. During that period, Garnett and Wolves president-coach Flip Saunders are expected to try to form a group to buy the team from Glen Taylor.

Garnett has amassed more than $325 million in salaries during 20 seasons in the NBA. Saunders, who turns 60 on Monday, has made an estimated $40 million during 17 seasons as a NBA coach.

Good thing neither guy ever spent a dime of that money.

I know they've spent money, but with endorsements KG has made significantly more than that. Flip won't really be much more than a figurehead at this point. They'll bring in some rich dude that likes basketball to buy 75% of the team or so.

I will read the article in a moment, but previously taylor was commited to sell a minor part of the team and try to sell bigger parts some time down the road.

KG should be have enough money for his personal life and buy a 1/5 or 1/4 of the team as he tries to get the group together to keep buying bigger parts from Taylor. I think I read a team can have up to 30 owners if I remember right.

Just as a note this might not be for a while. NBA players cannot own a team.

We can waive KG. Taylor will pay KG for waiving him, then KG will pay Taylor for buying the Wolves. Let the money change hands :)

Well obviously KG and Flip want to move the team. That goes without saying. The question is where. Flip is from Ohio and KG is from SC. Hm, maybe they could pick somewhere in between like Kentucky?

I read this last night and my response was: Walters is a terrible journalist. Listing cumulative salary? Really? I've amassed about $1 million in my working life and might be able to afford a really nice TV.

Has the Minnesota Timberwolves any compromise/contract with the City of Minneapolis or the Target Center owner?

From what I've read KG is worth around $200 million. No idea about Flip. They'd probably need something like $350 million to get majority ownership, I'm sure they could borrow quite a bit of that. Or bring in Oprah ;)

No I'm not serious. Cherry_Grape is always posting about how Glen has schemes going that will lead to him moving the team. That's what Dalvin and I were both talking about. My post was sarcasm.

Oprah is buds with Garnett from when KG built all those homes in New Orleans following Katrina. But those 18 homes probably cut into his 325 million. Lol

Maybe Minnesota was a special pet project of David Stern's? Would Adam Silver block a move like David Stern did back in 1994?

Makes me all warm and fuzzy that the Timberwolves were one of the few relocations David Stern stepped in and blocked :D
I want to move back to Minnesota, I miss it sooooo much!
