Draft Day 2015

Post#1 » by Klomp » Thu Jun 25, 2015 3:34 am

I'm about 90 minutes early in Minnesota, but please use this thread to discuss all of Thursday's festivities. The other draft threads will be locked.

To kick it off, here's a video to get the discussion rolling.

We should also use this thread to see who can guess the right picks for each team of the draft. Or at least as many as we can, would be cool to look back at our picks once the draft is over

Lets stay away from all this drama. Lets get in, Take Towns, and Leave. Let all these volcanic eruptions happen after we make our pick!

I'm going to make a prediction. If we stay in the 2nd round, Joe Young will be one of our picks.

On Wednesday, Flip Saunders mentioned ballhandling and shooting as qualities they'll be looking for in the backcourt. Young has those things in spades.

Additionally, looking at the rest of what's available near 31 and 36, nothing really fits the bill. Rozier, who some say we like, is more of a defensive guy. Harrison, currently mocked all the way down at 46, is not a great shooter.

Young is a gym rat too, and you know how much Flip likes those guys.

EDIT: After looking at Twitter, might need to get into late 1st for him. Spurs, Celtics, Lakers all showing interest.

If we grab Cliff Alexander with one of the two second rounders I will consider this the perfect draft.
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

Did Joe workout for us?

His skill level shocked me though. Might be a steal. I haven't fell in love with anyone at 31 so I would be cool with him.

But who's the next Wally is the real question.

Joe Young seems like a solid pick there if we are going guard. I still think one of those bigs holds more upside at that range. Chad Ford has Young in the 1st to the Lakers at #27. Rozier has the handles, and is athletic/great defender, but a mediocre shooter.

I'm hoping we are able to clear some roster spots(Bud, Bennett for sure), and can draft a couple developmental people at PG and at PF.

PG - If we can't move up for one of Jones, Grant, Wright. Joe Young, Rozier, Andrew Harrison, are about the only ones left.
PF - Cliff Alexander, Christian Wood, McCullough, and a ton of intriguing center prospects / draft and stash guys.

I think if we draft a PF it would be someone who plays overseas next year.
