Mayo willing to play in MN

Post#1 » by DG4L » Sat Jun 21, 2008 10:35 pm

Q: On if Mayo would be willing to play in Minnesota:
Stack: We asked him about that as well. Kevin McHale brought it up to him that it was out there that he only wanted to play in certain markets and O.J. said 'no.' He totally would be all-in if he was (drafted by the Wolves) ... He said he wanted to go to a situation where he could help the team and be in a winning situation. Obviously the teams that are drafting in the lottery now are not winning teams, but I think we explained to him kind of our plan and how we were looking to move forward and how he would fit into our plan. I think at the end of it he was really impressed that we're a team that's going to be on the rise hopefully very quickly, and he could be a big part of that.

Whatever the plan is, I'm just happy that Mayo's on board with it if he gets drafted here.

He does fit the plan well.

Center the team around the offensive post game of Al Jefferson and rebounding.
Surround that player with shooters who can play defense.

Sounds like the t-wolves watched too much Houston Rockets from back in the day.

Big Al and Mayo could be a deadly inside-outside combo.

I think Mayo has to be the pick right now. Before the season ended I heard the front office really wanted to surround Al with some shooters. Mayo fits the bill and has that star potential that could put people in the seats and get them excited about the TWolves again.

If we see Beasley as a 3 he could be a deadly inside-outside combo as well.
If Love can defend the other big man then he could be a deadley high-low combo.

All 3 of those guys "fit" very well. It is just a matter of who we project will be the better teammate and who wants to be better.

Only one question remains.....

What number will he wear? Currently, 32 is worn by Chris Richard.

Foye and Al were supposed to be our deadly inside outside combo, and I still think they will be.

I am just estatic to see a Foye-Mayo-Jefferson trio with Brewer manning the SF position as our defensive specialist and all we need is a good productive C and we can make the playoffs.

The more I watch Brewer, and the more I look at his body type and the body types of other players like him, the less I see him as a SF. I can see him being a small ball SF, but I dont see him playing major minutes there. He is better off guarding opposing 2's than opposing 3's.

Bron
Melo
Josh Smith
Al Harrington
Gerald Wallace
Pierce
Howard

These are just a few guys that would punish Brewer with their size/strength advantage

Mayo would take so much pressure off of foye. We have to pick Mayo or Beasley whoever is there and not look back. Yes, Love- Lopez are nice but i wold rather take a player with a much higher potential and then find Al his own “K. Perkins”. I just don`t see how we could make a mistke this way.

I agree 100%. I hate these trades where we trade down, especially for Love. When I saw him play, I didn't think he was any better than Tyler Hansborough, who is projected to be a mid-late first round pick in a much more shallow draft next year. If the Wolves trade down for Love or Lopez, I think they'd be making a huge mistake, much like the Foye for Roy trade.

The only trades that I have been slightly intrigued by were the Bogut & 8 or Kaman & 7, but other than that, no other scenario seems to warrant giving up the third pick. You just can't pass on players like Beasley or Mayo.

He'll take his 3rd overall pick money then ask for a trade by mid season.

The ironic thing is that Mayo said he'd play for the Wolves after working out for the Knicks,

What with the anger and bitterness of a few (not all) Knicks fans on this site?

So Mayo said he was willing to play in Minnesota, and some of them take offense to that because Mayo didn't try to force his way to New York? A little silly and arrogant, but whatever.
