Gerald Wallace Trade Imminent?

Post#1 » by shrink » Fri Nov 7, 2008 1:49 pm

Thing is, no one seems to know where he's going. Must be a very tight-lipped GM out there ...

Any chance this is the Wolves?

Even if it isn't, CHA mixing its team up may create other trade opportunities for us. I've always lusted after pairing Okafor with Big Al, and CHA can't be thrilled with him after his contract negotiations the last year, and his new significant contract. Perhaps if Wallace brings back a young big, maybe Okafor will become available if CHA is getting younger?

Yeah, I'm just dreaming, but how do you think Wallace would fit in around here?

I read on the Bobcats forum he could be involved in a three way with GS and NY. I would love to have him here though

Wallace is so ridiculously good, don't know what we'd even have to offer though.

It'd be hard to make a deal unless Mike Miller is included

I was surprised to learn he's only 26. He seems like he's been in the league forever .. I was thinking 29 or 30.

He's averaging 19.5 PPG, 9.3 RPG so far this season, on +50% FG shooting. His shooting and injuries have always held him back, but his hustling, blocks and steals have always been impressive. $9.5 mil a year for several years seems reasonable.

foye and felton cancel each other out

They'd want collins in a salary dump, and may actually prefer picks to actual players imo. May be looking for a PF, cuz they have plenty of 2/3's.

The may have some interest in Rashad McCants, thinking that they could light a fire under Felton and May if they re-united the Championship UNC trio. Jason Richardson would move to SF, with Carroll and Morrison backing up the SG and SF position. It might sell tickets in Charlotte too.

However, we'd have to add more value than just McCants.

Yeah, it'd have to include McCants. Shaddy and Miami pick might be getting there value-wise, throw in Collins for contract... it's for sure a long shot though

cardinals contract is to long for salary dump
brewer is to unproven to be of value
celtics pick is probably closer to a 2nd

Deals that they may consider:
Miller + x
Collins + MIA + BOS + UTAH picks (salary dump)
Collins + Love (if they want young pf)

I'd love to have crash on our roster. he'd be THE perfect SF we're looking for.

I'd give up anything besides Big Al, Love and Foye unless we get a decent PG back in return

Something along these lines maybe?

Minnesota out:
Rashad McCants
Jason Collins
Utah pick
Boston pick

Minnesota in:
Gerald Wallace
Marco Belinelli

Golden State out:
Al Harrington
Marco Belinelli

Golden State in:
Jason Richardson

Charlotte out:
Gerald Wallace
Jason Richardson

Charlotte in:
Rashad McCants
Al Harrington
Jason Collins
Utah pick
Boston pick

I think the Tar Heel connection is over, Larry Brown likes Augustin over Felton and Sean May has been a disappointment. I don't think McCants would do anything for them.

If I was to guess, I'd think they might be interested in some combination of Foye, Miller, and picks; they'd probably like Gomes too, but he's on trade restriction still. Then of course first round draft picks always help. If we're going to underbid, then we'd need to throw in that Miami pick, not the Utah/Boston picks.
A Collins expiring for Nazr would probably be of interest too as added incentive.

wait till dec 15 and they can have gomes or smith. Give them Collins (exp) Brewer, Smith, and a pick for Wallace.

He is too good of a player for them to take str8 cap relief. We may give to much there to. I doubt anything could get done but as stated by someone above he being Wallace would be a perfect fit on this roster.

That thought has crossed my mind before as well.

Maybe, but Cardinal would be an expiring contract next year (16 months left on the deal), while Wallace's contract goes until 2013. It looks to me like CHA isn't going to be under the salary cap next year anyway, and maybe not in 2010 either.

My thinking is that they already have two disappointing players they invested lottery picks in. McCants may still save them. I don't know if reuniting the three NCAA Champs, who had their jerseys retired at UNC would bring in more fans in NC, but it seems like a cheap investment, depending on where we put McCants trade value.

This is a terrific idea. Moving Wallace's long deal AND Nazr's three year deal could make them players in free agency. Nazr would become our starting center. He's a little expensive, with three years in the $6's, but there's no doubt he'd be useful, and it'd be a good way for the Wolves to add value. If we added Wallace, we'd be on our way to tossing out our 2010 free agency quest anyway, so we might be one of the teams willing to take on his third year.

I have solved this by combining the miller-wally cle deal...

Minnesota Timberwolves
Incoming Players: Gerald Wallace, Wally Szczerbiak
Outgoing Players: Jason Collins, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, Mark Madsen

Cleveland Cavaliers
Incoming Players: Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, Mark Madsen
Outgoing Players: J.J. Hickson, Wally Szczerbiak

Charlotte Bobcats
Incoming Players: J.J. Hickson(or some other small contract??), Jason Collins
Outgoing Players: Gerald Wallace

send CHA CLE 1st for sure then...
BOS 1st + UTAH 1st
or MIA 1st
could toss in mccants too I guess

wally can play the shooter role miller plays, just not as well. We retain large parts of cap space. With cardinal & madsen off the books MN is at ~42m. Id say use it for capspace deals, in fact if the team could move a bit more salary they could pull out a deal like CHA did 2 years ago with jrich.

love
crash
brewer\mccants\wally
