Lineup Changes Coming?

Post#1 » by Klomp » Fri Nov 7, 2008 6:39 pm

It was in both local papers today, and also on the Wiretap.

Foye does seem like he'd be better off the bench. Kind of like Ben Gordon in Chitown the last few years. Plus, we saw what he did his rookie season coming off the bench.

Love would add that needed size. With two big men starting in Sac, it would be a good time to try it out.

Foye needs to earn the starting job; he's playing like a 2nd string PG(Or maybe that's what he is).

I've been worried the window on Gomes would close quickly. I'd certainly like to see Love start.

As for Telfair vs Foye, we've seen Telfair one game, and Foye only four. I think it would be very difficult for management, with all they've invested in Foye, to bring him off the bench. If Foye were on the bench though, would it be possible Rashad McCants would start with Telfair? If we want to trade someone, I'd like to see them soaked in minutes to hopefully raise their trade value.

I like Corey Brewer as our starting SG.

Foye, Rashad and Gomes will be one hell of a scoring punch off the bench.

I say bench Foye till he gets his game back together, because I know he's better than that.

Let me preface this with I do really like Gomes.

Gomes should not be our starting 4. He is a 3, sometimes 4 though this is mainly when against small ball type teams. I think playing him at the 4 with Jefferson (a short, less defensive minded 5) is lowering Gomes's value and probably not helping his confidence. He would work better playing against other 3's using his size down low and sneaking out for the open jumpers. Unfortunately, he is just being overpowered by the bigger 4's we have been playing so far.

Starters should be:
1. Foye (can't give up on him yet)
2. Brewer (love the hustle and "D", has shown continueing improvement)
3. Miller (vet, shooter, scorer)
4. Love (has been extremely impressive with his play, only reason not to start him may be stamina or foul prone being young still)
5. Jefferson (self explanatory)

Second unit
1. Telfair (good running the team and getting it to the open man)
2. McCants (great scoring option, especially since Telfair isn't a dominant scorer)
3. Gomes (leadership, shooting, size, rebounding as a 3)
4. Smith (rhino is a big, semi shortish 4, not a diminutive 5)
5. Booth/Collins/Madsen (whoever is healthy and not wearing a suit, Love would do some 5 minutes with the second unit)

Extra:
Carney for spot minutes or to cover foul trouble
Ollie if the guards are hurt or struggling
Cardinal should never not be wearing a suit

Too bad Ollie isn't really reliable enough to get heavy minutes with the second unit, I'd start both Telfair and Foye and see if Foye's natural SG abilities can be salvaged or if Wittman has ruined him. I think the only move that should be made is starting Love, unless a trade is made. For example if McCants were to be traded I would bring Foye off the bench and start Bassy.

Brewer doesn't deserve to come off the bench though.

Gomes off the bench is a duh. It was always in the cards, the Wolves just needed the token "Love come off the bench as a rookie" period. I expected it to last all of 2008, but poor performances by others and compartively good outings by Love have thrust it forward.

Like others, I wouldn't bench Foye yet. I'd play Bassy more the next few games though and then reevaluate.

I am glad to see that Love will start. He has proven already that he is a legit NBA bigman with the skills and abilities to excel.

How do you guys feel about those changes now that they played a game like this?

Edit: I'm happy, I have both Love and Telfair on my Fantasy team, next to McCants and Miller. I also have KG, had Szczerbiak and Jaric but waived them and waiting for a Kevin Martin+Chris Kaman for Dwight Howard+Foye transfer to be approved, so a lot of current and former Wolves.

Foye AND McCants coming off the bench? Foye playing off the ball? 26 minutes for Foye, 19 for Brewer, 15 for McCants?

Please see the Fire Randy Wittman thread.

until I see these lineups for the entire 1st quarter, I will be displeased

Foye, mccants, miller, love, al
and
Foye-brewer-Miller-Love-Jefferson

I just looked on 82games to see if these have been run.

Apparently the 2nd lineup has never happened? How can that even be possible?
