C.lupus wrote:As a player for the Wolves, I agree. I think Pekovic "the asset" may have more value to the Wolves as a trading chip to a team needing to get under the cap, though. If he could be used as a piece to move up and grab Rubio (via Washington for example), then he would probably have more long-term value to the Wolves than Jordan ever would.

That's the only positive I see at this point. I hope I am wrong, but I have never believed for a second that he would be in a Wolves uniform. Curious what #5 + rights to Pekovic would get us.

Jordan is a project for sure, and should have stayed in college. Not sure if his inconsistency is due to conditioning or attitude, but when he gets minutes and touches, he is productive. I still think he was a steal as a 2nd rounder, and was mad that the Wolves passed him up.

How much are Pekovic's rights worth now though? With so many reports about how he's supposedly not coming to the NBA out there, would anybody give anything for him? (Short of the money/cap value that his rights might hold, which would be relatively low since he was a 2nd rounder)

Ok, but doesn't the profound lack of interest from his end

(since his only words on the subject have been like this oft-mentioned interview:

http://www.ballineurope.com/european-ba ... e-nba-now/
)
negatively affect his value over here?

What I‘ve been thinking (and I may be totally off base) is this:
His disinterest in the NBA may be legit or it may be a smoke screen. It may also be more of a disinterest in the Wolves rather than the NBA in general (small market, established post player). We just don’t know. I also think, talent-wise and not considering his contract status, he would be a top 10 pick in this draft if he were in it. So, a large market team with financial or other restrictions may feel it is a worthwhile gamble to take him as part of a larger trade. In essence a team could get two top 10 picks for one with one of the picks deferred.

I mentioned WAS. Perhaps something along the lines of #2 (Rubio) +Pecherov for #5 + rights to Pekovic or #2 + Stevenson or Songalia for #5 + Pekovic + Smith. They get two young talents and save a few million to boot. With Arenas under contract I don’t think the difference in wins with Rubio as a backup vs. Evans as a backup is significant.

How about San Antonio? I don’t know if they have anything we want but they will need to find a replacement for Duncan at some point and they need youth. Pekovic would provide both and the timing of him coming over would probably coincide nicely with Duncan’s retirement. Their reputation with success with Euro players may be incentive for Peks to come over.

NY is a large market if he wants that. As is Chicago. Either team could use a nice post scorer.

Panathinaikos is said to be working on Pekovic with his contract being increased. It seems his contract for the next 2 years would be = to the same as a 2 year $14.7 million NBA contract. If this is true and seems that it is, then he will not come to the NBA until after his PAO contract is over.

Over?

Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is!
Was it over when the Swiss bombed Kuwait?

Hell no!!

And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...

I was pretty pissed when we passed on Deandre Jordan watching the draft live.

At the time I thought I was just high on him for his atheticism, and he would suck due to low bball IQ.

Thanks a lot McHale for that, and also trading Chalmers for cash!

The front offices promises don't seem to hold much weight do they. McHale guarantees Pekovic will come over latest 2010. Taylor promises to announce new gm within 2 weeks, it's been over 3 now Glen!

I would love to know Hoiberg's thoughts at the time on those two deals.

I can understand people being mad that we didn't keep Chalmers. But like 90% of the people that complain about that trade don't mention the TWO 2nd rounders we got for trading away ONE second rounder. :dontknow:

Yeah it's upsetting that we lost chalmers for what amounts to nothing but 2 million in cash and 2 future picks for a 2nd rounder is actually very good return.

And we were a little tight for roster spots to begin with as well.

Meh, i never really liked the pick...

I really hope we can trade him away and get something good in return.

An offensive center is the last thing we need
