Don't forget Mcdonagh who was all over the place. LOVED the third period where the Rangers basically dumped the puck in the Canadians zone and turned it into a foot race, just draining their energy level.

I don't think Dolan owned the team in 1994 did he? I didn't think cablevision bought the team until later.

Dolan wasn't the owner in 1994 and Dolan doesn't even know the Rangers exist, hence why they have turned it around recently.

He's very aware that they exist. It's just that Glen Sather is his hockey version of Isiah Thomas and ever since the changes made after the 2004 lockout took away his ability to throw truckloads of money at washed up stars Sather has (very slowly) actually learned to trust his scouts and build a team properly by starting from the goal out and supplementing with free agency and trades. You take someone who has Dolan's ear and actually knows what they're doing and good things can happen. Hopefully Phil will be leading us to similar levels in the near future.

would almost wanna face Chicago as LA has the superior goalie

anyways great run by the Rangers first line to fourth line all these guys have produced, even when they made the semis two seasons ago you had some atrocious lines that practically served no purpose, you have a very good balance now this season

Cablevision started buying up shares in 1994. Buying up MSG's controlling interest then the other half three yrs later. At the time, Jimmy Dolan wasn't in charge but Charles Dolan, founder of the company did.

As for Glen Sather, once he stopped giving aging scoffers bad contracts like Lindros, Bure, etc and started drafting and adding more grinding 2 way players, things started to click.

Not a hockey fan (although I must admit it was exciting to watch last night!) but this gives me hope that a Dolan owned team can reach a finals.

Sather deserves a lot of credit. Even when he was terrible he never lost a trade and a lot of the young pieces that we have are products of him finally realizing the need to build your core through the draft in the NHL and also absolutely bending teams over in trades. Couple that with some shrewd moves in free agency and finally understanding the importance of holding onto your assets and maintaing cap flexibility and this is the result. I think AV deserves a ton of credit too. The team took a while to gel but he always remained patient with the players and gave them all the confidence that they could contribute whereas of course Torts tended to alienate guys and point the finger elsewhere.

The problem with Gaborik, smallish forwards tend to get crushed in the playoffs when it becomes a dump/chase/grind game. Nice player and great teammate BUT...he'd disappear come playoff time.

Give you an example of how different playoff hockey is, Boyle was a big NOTHING during the regular season. In the Playoffs, he's a MONSTER/WILD animal.
