Being the cynical Blazer fan that I am, I still believe the Nets are going to end up with a Top 3 pick after the ping-pong balls drop, if that's any consolation.

Re: Houston Pick Watch
Technically speaking they can still make it in, this is going to be beyond an uphill battle at this point though. This really really sucks. Screw you Billy Queen.

Re: Houston Pick Watch
Its anoying that the Rockets lost but Eric Gordon has taken an average team, put them on his back and led them to wins.
He is a great player, what I wouldn't do to get him on the Nets.
If we did get a top 3 pick, rather than moving for Josh Smith would anyone look to get a sign and trade with Gordon using the top 3 pick somehow?
I would

Keep the pick, and start rebuilding and stop the reconstructing sh*t they've been doing over the seasons. Lottery is at the end of May right? I really can't wait to see where we land.

You can't rebuild though thats the point. If we land the 2nd or 3rd pick, it's getting traded for a good player to improve the team. If we attempted to rebuild and keep any potential top 3 pick (outside of Davis) we will still be a lotto team in 2012-2013 with no 1st round pick.
So we can't rebuild because of the Wallace trade, we're all in still

And unless the star you trade that pick for is Lebron James, your still going to be a lottery team. This team better get there sh*t right, because that Blueprint for Greatness isn't going as planned I believe, unless this was the plan from the start. Oh, and I'm talking as if we have a 1st round pick in this draft, silly me

I don't believe that is possible. If the Nets get a Top 3 pick, then the pick becomes a Top 2 lotto protected 2013 pick for the Blazers. Because of that Isiah Thomas rule, teams can trade 2 consecutive 1st round picks in back to back years. So since your 2013 pick would be traded to Portland, you can't trade the 2012 pick.
However you might be able to trade it after the player is picked, but I'm not sure what the technicalities are on that.

It's called the Ted Stepien Rule.
You can trade the player drafted in 2012 as long as you physically select the player then trade him, it's a loophole in the rule.
Also, if we find a way to attain another 2012 1st round pick we're good as well.

That's not necessarily true.
You can make a trade that brings in a real star and keep Deron, resign Wallace as well and either resign Brook or S&T him for someone good but different.
Listen, I'm not expecting greatness at this point, but it's not out of the question.
Dwight is still out there as well, there's no denying it.
This team better get there sh*t right, because that Blueprint for Greatness isn't going as planned I believe, unless this was the plan from the start.
Indeed.
Oh, and I'm talking as if we have a 1st round pick in this draft, silly me![]()
The trade was awful, but maybe we'll luck out into top 3.
And the sad part is even if we do, the pick will almost definitely be traded and in a true doomsday where Deron and Wallace walk, yet we "only" get the 3rd overall with Davis and Robinson off the board, we're probably looking at shipping somewhere around the 4th to 9th overall to Portland in 2013 when we're in a forced real deal youth rebuild.
Hooray Billy Jester!

Re: Houston Pick Watch
What I'm scared of is that we end up trading for Howard in the summer, which makes Deron stay, but this injury really slows down Howard's career, and he won't be the same player again. We end up giving away every last asset we had for damaged goods, and we won't ever be as good as we expected, because of that. I hope not, and it doesn't sound like this is going to seriously affect him in the future, but with the luck of this team, I can't help but think about it.
Obviously, everyone walking away and us not having a draft pick would basically be the death sentence of this franchise.

Re: Houston Pick Watch
I'd take damaged good over stolen goods, so I'm good with that trade.

These are all true. Thanks for the heads up on the name of the rule too.

Hmm, interesting way of putting it lol. We've made trades for both types the past decade which landed us great players in Kidd and Carter and some "quality" players.

You should know my stance better than anyone by now lol. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, IMO. My optimistic days for the Nets died when Carter got traded, 0-18 started, and 12-70 ended. Unless I actually see a Nets team, with kid of NBA success, any kind of NBA success on the floor soon, I think this team and its future is crap. But please King, Proky, and Petro, prove me wrong for everyone sake lol.
