It was reported months ago by the NY Post, Prokhorov was looking for a third investor and needed to reduce payroll to show other interested buyers that he would be willing to reduce his crazy spending which he did (letting Pierce walk).

Thought it was strange he would pay the crazy amount for the team's salary last year including the luxury tax and a year later want to cut costs. Now it makes sense.

Alot of these clueless beat writers are pushing this idea Proky wants to sell completely when in actuality, he is just taking advantage of the valuation of the team which is at 1 billion.
