it was in the offseason thread. back when everyone was going crazy about how much young talent we had and how there is no way we would fall off so much just lsoing dwill, etc....

he went on for quite a few pages about how great cliff alexander could be

And it's 3 weeks into Alexander's, RHJ's and McCullough's careers. It's a little early to call it dont you think?

I still think Alexander is going to be good but that wont be for 2-4 years considering he is only 19.

when did i say we had to "call their careers"

and id say the only thing that is premature is calling late 1sts/2nd rounders/undrafted guys like RHJ/alexander potential hall of famers.

cliff alexander has yet to play in an NBA game. im sorry if thinking him being a 24/10 player is kind of riddiculous

You do realize that at the same ages, Brand / Pippen / Robinson were in college.

IF Alexander develops he has that kind of upside. That's not riddiculous. He has that kind of pedigree since he was the top PF in his age class and it wasnt close. He would have been a top 5 pick if he came out after HS.

A lot of things get in the way that can derail a prospect: injuries (he has been hurt), entourage, laziness, etc.

there are 5,265 college basketball players. the fact that brand, pippen, robinson, rodman were all young at some point doesnt mean that all 5,265 college players have the potential to be those guys. or be what those guys turned into. just being young is meaningless. being young has no bearing on your ceiling, it just means you (most likely) havent reached your ceiling yet.

Was brand in college at alexanders age? sure. you know who else was in college at alexanders age?

scott machado
Tu Halloway
Yancy Gates
Herb Pope
josh owens

Dont recognize those names? those are other players who went undrafted and went on to not become elton brand. every rookie starts young. being young doesnt mean you can become elton brand or scottie pippen

can those 3 guys have nba careers? can they become good players? sure. but to say they have hall of fame type poential upside is completely baseless. there is nothing to justify any of those 3 guys have that kind of potential

Cliff alexander is struggling to stay in the league. let alone dress for a game, let alone crack the rotation, let alone be a 24/10 player in the NBA. cliff alexander didnt average 24/10 in HIGH SCHOOL. let alone in the pros. he wasnt drafted. he hasnt be able to get on the floor for a pretty bad nba team. yet he is supposed to turn into elton brand? again, completely baseless

Thomas robinson? Rodman is a hall of famer.... he was a 2 time defensive player of the year. he was first team all nba defense 5 times and all nba 11 times. Thomas robinson didnt even have a -2.47 defensive RAPM last season... he wasnt even a positive for his team defensively, let alone be defensive player of the year. Rodman gaurded prime jordan, and prime shaq. thats the kind of versatility he had as an elite defender. how in the hell are we comparing thomas robinson to rodman?

RHJ? Pippen was a 22/8/6 player in his prime. RHJ struggles to dribble with his right hand and has gone scoreless in 3 f the 7 games he has played. he has shown absolutely nothing that would indicate he can reach the levels pippen did on offense. let alone sustain that over an 18 year career.

no one is saying all of these guys will be cut tomorrow or turn into scrubs. but there is absolutely nothing to lead anyone to beleive that have the type of potential of those 3 players. or anything even remotely close to that
