Dolan can't afford Jlin to blow up on Hou, we are matching.

From what I could get from what he was saying, if they let Lin walk it is is because he doesn't fit into Woodson's system. Woodson wants to run iso's primarily with Melo and Lin doesn't fit into that. He definitely seemed to put it on Woodson and not Melo.
I guess Woodson wants to put his own stamp on this team and run all MDA guys out of town. Ironically they just replace a MDA type PG with another one.

The media/fan backlash will be huge if they don't match, something Dolan usually wants to avoid.

Re: *Felton traded to the Knicks. Knicks not matching Lin?
I would love to see them match and then make Lin earn his playing time throughout the year.
Lin knows full damn well that the Rockets offer is largely contingent on him being asian and providing a deep and unique revenue stream. I'd love for the Knicks to match and then make it very clear why they did so.
The more I think about this, the more it's a bit hypocritical on Lin's part. TO BE CLEAR, I DON'T BEGRUDGE HIM AT ALL FOR TAKING THE MONEY, but it doesn't jive with a guy who "just wanted to be known as a basketball player" and wished he could "just play".
It's like a poor person taking ""blood money", but not wanting to deal with the source of the funds. He's on the NBA minimum, cut twice, and now stands to make an historic payday that is based SIGNIFICANTLY on his marketability. I totally get taking the money because it's life-altering cake, but I hope that the guy has really thought this through, as this type of contract sets him up to be pigeon-holed and objectified even more than he was in the white hot moments of Linsanity.

I don't buy it. why bother saying they're going to match and that he'll start? and go out to dinner with him? Seems more likely that if they don't match, it's the revamped contract.

Yep. My friend at work, the Portland fan who watches all of their games on league pass, had nothing good to say about him at all.
But at least Denver got Andre Miller and the rights to Jordan Hamilton for him. They likely made out best via their relationship with Felton.

Well Dolan can always run some stories on the papers like Lin's being greedy or the Knicks care more about bball than marketing so that fans would give him a pass. It appears that they're doing this already.

90% chance Knicks will match.
But either way, Lin wins.

The Nets get cj watson for one year for the minimum and we sign a worse option to a large multi year deal.

Maybe he said that purposely to get Houston to up their offer. Maybe Dolan was on board and it helps avoid him receiving the bulk of backlash from Knicks fans? Honestly, I don't believe a word these reporters say, but I believe everything coming from the mouth of Jeffries. It is telling that he indicated that this decision would have to do with Lin not fitting Woodson's system.

keep spinning it in your head. we looked great with Melo and Lin under Woodson. A lot better than we're going to look with Felton.

And give up picks and futures for the privilege. Knick GMs routinely make deals while bent over and spreading their cheeks...

CJ Watson is absolutely not a better option at PG than Felton.

Option 1: Felston = An average PG who will never be very good.
Option 2: Lin = A average PG who might become very good.
Which one would you rather have?

Lin got $25MM for 3 years... maybe teams weren't lining up for that deal, but of the pricetag was what Felton is going to get most of the league would have been interested.

If this is true, I think it is no coincidence that Woodson proclaimed Lin our starting point guard before the bigger offer came out. It was leaked, from the mouth of Woodson, on purpose IMO assuming this all goes down. They knew Houston would be forced to give Lin a better offer and they could use the whole luxury tax excuse to protect Woodson. It might be even possible that they told Lin they weren't going to match and had him go to Houston to ask for more money. More conspiracy theory, but pieces are started to come together now with this. Jeffries knows the Knicks locker room and him saying Lin isn't thought to meet Woodson's system speaks volumes.
If all this is true, the knicks just lost a lot of fans and money. Stupid stupid stupid but I hope Lin is back.

Lol at anybody who thinks Felton is better than Lin. Probably the same people that didn't like Lin in the first place. Think about it it's Raymond Felton......Raymond Felton people! Can someone give me an analysis comparing the two where Felton comes out on top?
