Those two plus cap holds and picks will be around 47.5 Million. Barring a miracle we will not have enough cap space for a max. Good luck building a team around two highly flawed players taking up 2/3s of the cap space. Talent wise it is a slight improvement. Salary and future growth it is a big regression.

Long term this is going to be considered a fleecing.

Long term? What does that mean?

When in 5 years we look back at a Knicks team that never made it past the second round, while Denver got a jump start on a rebuild and Melo is on his last legs while Gallo, Chandler, and AR are in their prime. Don't forget we are giving up Randolph as well. You put these players in the right environment and they all have all star potential.

Melo is so happy. Damn he is definitely a Knick.

Who thinks about 5 years from now? Nerds, that's who. Real fans only concentrate on today.

I'm glad some people will be rooted out by this.

Mediocre? Books are not closed on any of these players - but what you see with MegloMelo is what you're gonna get. Dude's a low IQ player who doesn't make his teammates better - but is being confused with a franchise talent by an owner who still listens to the architect of the Marbury and Curry trades. Lebron's gonna make him look sad in the playoffs, even though Anthony will be making more money.

Not closed, but come on, lets call it what it is... Perhaps Gallo will one day be a Dlee type all star - but at this point, there's no reason to think he'll be much more than a good role player...... Melo, as you say, is what he is - one of the , if not the, best offensive players in the league... is he Kobe? Jordan? no..... is he a legit max player that would bully guys along side Amare - yes..... Don't let the fact that we'd have to give up this or that change that.

comparing us to what the heat may or may not to do in the playoffs is irrelevant... I'll take my chances with Amare and Melo as the foundations of this team moving forward than Amare and Gallo - just the way I see it.....

Everyone is ready to kill Dolan, but does anyone change their mind if it leaks out that melo gave him an ultimatum?? that he'd sign with the nets if a deal wasnt going to get done before hte deadline??

how does everyone's opinion of this trade change then??

We could have had Amare, Melo, and Gallo if Melo had some balls.

D'antoni going to be crying himself to sleep tonight. Don't think any of us are happy to see Gallo leave, but I had a bad feeling this was what it was going to take.

(Believing melo is a knick)

What is most likely to happen in the first month of melo in ny?

a) He doesnt show up to play
b) he gets shot in the leg in a night club
c) He averages 40 points a game
d) He debuts at the garden wearing #33
e) A mix of b, c, and D.

This trade could still be killed. Denver's pattern is to move the goal posts.

On one thing said above by another poster, Stoudemire is not an elite post player really. He's a face up player and slasher.

Tell me about it. I won't be surprised if come Sunday Morning we hear about Nuggets asking for Mozgov again.

I have been a fan, going to games since 1981... I have longed for the day when we stopped trying to get aging stars, Kiki vandewe, truck robinson, Jammin James bailey, etc... and grow our own stars... I am now convinced that this day WILL NEVER, EVER HAPPEN..... Yea, I am a huge gallo fan, but come on, gallo, chandler, felton, 5 virgins, 10 picks, stock in cablevision, ellis island, the hamptons, free tickets to every event at Radio city music hall, the rights to stand off the piers at the south street seaport and piss in the river, the statue of the wall street bull, and oh yea, walt fraizier has to announce 20 denver games per year, for free..... we got hosed in this deal as reported.. Melo isn't lebron, he isn't wade and those are the kinds of players you consider gutting your team for... what would make me happy is after this deal, that walsh retires.. not because I don't think he is a good GM. I think he is great.. But as a sign of protest..and honestly from that point on, the knicks can sink into the abyss of mediocrity for all I care...

I couldn't agree more. Gallo will make us hate this trade it two years. All I can really hope for is we get a defensive minded coach in the off season.

don't overlook the fact that DENVER MIGHT JUST be crazy enough to reject this offer.

hell, i'm 99.99% sure they will come back and change things up just like they have in every other possible melo deal.

the same way rudy couldn't go back and we can't get euros without buying out their contracts. there's deals between the leagues.

It really depends on who the fillers are. We don't know.

If its Smith or Birdman, I can swallow this deal a little easier.

Don't wanna see Gallo go. This is going to be so f'ing sad, man. Think about how DEADLY Fields/Gallo/Melo/Stat would have been. You can't stop that. Goddamit. I hope Denver cracks at the last minute and accepts a final deal without Gallo.
