Hahn:

Lebron's people reached out to tell the Knicks that Lebron hasn't made up his mind. That's a great sign for the Knicks. Tells them that they're still players and that they shouldn't give up on him.

Hawks can't give Joe Johnson a max because a max deal would be 40% of the team's value. It's possible he's leaving. It's a smart move to get out to LA and speak to JJ first if the Lebron thing falls apart. He would be a complimentary player for Lebron James.

On the Knicks not having a young energetic owner:
It's a group of people. Walsh will give his speech. Donnie garners respect. So does Riley. But Walsh commands respect. Lebron knows D'Antoni. They won a gold medal together. They already have a relationship. D'Antoni's not a stranger. Allan Houston will play a role as well. He had success as a player and can give the player's perspective. Knicks have NYC, the Garden, and the ability to help Lebron and his people reach a global market that they want to reach. That's huge. On the court will take care of itself. Dolan will spend. Whenever his GM says we need a check, Dolan writes the check. Gilbert is losing money on the Cavs. Nets owner is new to this. What he plans to do is something the Knicks are already doing. No one can compare to a team that will carry a 100m payroll and pay the luxury tax if it means they can win.

On the Heat getting 3 max players:
They don't have enough space for 3 max players. If you include Wade as a max, they don't have enough for 2 more maxs. They would have to find someone to take Beasley's contract. Really what you have to look at is the chemistry. Can those 3 guys play together? Ask Doc Rivers about managing those 3 egos in Boston. And no one is going to take less money. They don't know what the CBA will be in 2011. This may be the last chance to make major bucks. Those three guys played together in the Olympics but that was a novelty. It was only 15 games. Can they do that for 82 games?

It's actually on a building on 34th and 8th in Manhattan...

http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/inth ... greatness/

If you’re anywhere near Madison Square Garden, take a look at a building on 34th and 8th and you will see most of Mikhail Prokhorov’s face and by tomorrow Jay-Z’s face will be complete.

By Thursday – the start of the free-agent negotiation period - the entire 225-x-95-foot mural featuring Prokhorov and Jay-Z standing next to each other with “The Blueprint For Greatness” and a Nets logo on it will be complete. It strategically overlooks the Garden.

“That billboard is the anchor to an aggressive marketing platform for key transit hubs from Manhattan to Newark,” said Nets CEO Brett Yormark, the likely mastermind behind this.

“It’s a pretty aggressive campaign around free agency. It’s one of the biggest advertising spaces in the city. What better place to make a statement.”

One statement certainly seems to be that the Nets wanted the Knicks to know they plan to be winners in free agency if not rule the big city. Remember what Prokhorov said last month:

“I have only one secret. We’re going to turn Knicks fans into Nets fans. It’s a part of success.”

Both teams have made LeBron James their top free-agent target. The Nets may be treated like second-class citizens because they’re in New Jersey, but they’ll be in Brooklyn within three years and may be ahead of the Knicks on James’ list.

I don't get it. Why would the owners of the Nets put up a big billboard with their pictures on it? Why would Lebron be attracted to that? Pretty sad.

It's to steal Knick fans. The billboard is across the street from MSG.

It's pretty bad. They'll have to paper over Avery when he gets fired and then stamp "DEPORTED" on the Russian when he's caught with prosties and white powder at The Plaza.

You can't market a team this way anyway -- NYers all know the Nets and by and large hate the Nets. An owner would have a better chance attracting new fans if you brought in a new team altogether and started over.

The only Knick fans the Nets will steal are the dumb ones that follow what a billboard says.
