Bargnani and Calderon would actually combine for nearly exactly the same amount that Stoudemire has left on his contract. Calderon's contract expires one year earlier but Bargnani's extend one year longer than Stoudemires.

Here's a different take. Would you guys do a Bargnani, Calderon, 8th for Stoudemire and Shumpert?

yeah not sure i would trade Shump for the 8th pick ... even though he's injured twice this year ...and might not be ready for a while ... the D he plays is just to much

pretty much saying Shump for either Bradley Beal or Jeremy Lamb ...both are left in the NBAdraft.net mock draft

that would be tough i think to pass up on...throw in their second and it's real tough to pass up on
buy another 2nd ...and package TD and Jordan for another 2nd ...

6th pick ...Jeremy Lamb
37th pick ...Kevin Murphy
40th pick ... Papanikolaou (bought pick)
48th pick ... Scott Machado
59th pick ... Kyle O'quinn (trade spurs TD and Jordan)

pg/ LInn /Calderon/ Machado
sg/ Jeremy Lamb / Kevin Murphy
sf/ Melo / Kostas Papanikolaou
pf/ Bargs / Jefferies
C / Chandler / Harrellson / Kyle O'Quinn

i like that roster

If we could get Bargs and the 8th, that would be a steal. Bargs would be great on this team. He's younger than Amare, better shooter/able to spread the floor while Melo isos, same type of rebounder. His contract is 1 year longer but his contract is more manageable. Plus the 8th to get whoever (Perry Jones, Terrance Jones)

Bargnani is an atrocious rebounder.

We can't buy a pick under CBA rules because we already used the max cash for a year in the Tyson sign and trade (sending it to Washington to pay Turiaf's deal).

Also, you guys are crazy if you think we can get Bargnani and the pick for Amar'e. I think we'd be lucky to just get Bargnani and filler (i.e bad contract most likely or possibly Calderon) for Amar'e. Bargz may be a horrible defender and rebounder like Amar'e, but at least offensively he'd fit perfectly. I mean wow. All the benefits of playing Melo at PF with the floor space without losing size. Calderon would also be a pretty great back up PG option. I used to really hate him because his defense was horrible but he got A LOT better under Casey (and I've read Casey doesn't want them to trade him).

Now if Shumpert was included, then yeah I think Toronto would include the 8th pick... BUT HELL NO from me! I love Shumpert and I'm not trading him for a new rookie (although for Beal, I would... but he won't last past #3 and obviously Davis and MKG).

So a Toronto trade would probably look like:
Bargnani, Amir Johnson and Kleiza for Amar'e (and if they want TD and/or Jerome, they could be thrown in).
or
Bargnani, Kleiza, Calderon for Amar'e and Jerome.

The 2nd one allows Toronto to save around $4-5 mil in cap space this summer (and also pushes us closer to the luxury tax) and the ability to pair Amar'e with Derozan, Valanciunas and their new pick (and they probably use Amar'e as bait for Nash, but I doubt that works). It gives us 3 rotation players, including the ideal offensive PF between Tyson and Melo, a top back up PG (for big bucks though) and solid back up swing man who can play SG, SF and PF.

Kleiza isn't bad at all, he's a little overpaid now... but I watched him play a lot in Denver and his problem was always consistency and heart. There were rumors that he was a moody guy who would always go to bars by himself which would explain why he seemed out of it sometimes. Although Melo always played well with him. I remember in the WCF, Melo asked Karl to put him in and he ended up hitting a bunch of threes in I think game 2 which Denver won in LA. I think he'd be a great addition to the bench and probably replace Novak (he's not as good of a shooter but he's better at everything else except hustle).

For his career, under 5 per game for a guy who averages over 30 mpg.... that's horrible. I'm more curious to see if he boxes out though. Amar'e does get like 8 rpg without boxing out. If Bargnani is boxing out then maybe he's contributing more than the #s suggest.

Going by 82games.

Per 48 minute, when at PF:
Bargs: rebounds 7.6, opposing PF 8.1. Opposing PF per 13.2.
Amare: rebounds 10.4, opposing PF 10.9. Opposing PF per 15.2.

So, there actually wasn't much of a difference overall. Both got out rebounded slightly, although opposing PF's had a lower per with Bargs in the game.

There was a big difference overall though, with Amare in the game, NY scored 11 LESS points per 100 possessions, and Raptors scored 2.2 more points per 100 with Bargs in.

Amare in, offense 6 worse, defense 5 worse. Total -11.
Bargs in, offense 5.3 better, defense 3.1 worse. Total +2.2.

I know stats can't tell the whole story, but those are pretty eye opening. I'd imagine in NY's system, next to Tyson, Bargs numbers would look even better.

Here's a workable deal I work on focussing on getting that seemingly available 10th pick of the draft...

I posted it in another thread, but of course it belongs here.

I've been working on a deal that seems to work by trade machine...

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6w6yzye

Amare to the Pistons for Ben Gordon

Shumpert to the Hornets for Okafor and 10th pick (Terrence Ross, Perry Jones, Kendall Marshall)

Charlie V to the Hornets, Trevor Ariza to the Pacers

Lance Stevenson to the Hornets

The positives for each team.....

Pistons get a player to help boost sales, and should be able to produce being the number one option again in return for giving up to relatively overpaid players for the production they give.

Hornets save a cool 9 mil by dumping Okafor and Ariza, while picking up a player who doesn't have a longer deal, and one who's option is cheap.

Pacers pick up a decent versatile wing defender who can hit the three.

Knicks send:
Toney Douglas
#48 Pick

Bulls send:
#29 Pick

Knicks try to rise in the draft to grab a true PG who can help Lin during the season. (Scott Machado, Tyshawn Taylor) Or grab a PF prospect as an insurance for Amare. (Andrew Nicholson, Royce White, Kyle O'Quinn)

Bulls get a young PG who had a down year, but with a full summer might be back to his 12 PPG/3 APG & good defense per game & with Rose out the Bulls could use that. Bulls could also still draft a solid player at #48.

^^ Somebody send this to Grunny, the Bulls could bite because Toney Douglas has had good games against them including his career high.

Are you suggesting trading a player for a pick higher, only to draft the same player who most likely with be there when we pick anyway?

You had me until Shumpert went to New Orleans. Take him out and it's a bonafide yes from me. Although I realize he's the major incentive for New Orleans.
