Amare finally addresses lack of explosion / poor play

Post#1 » by xsaberx » Tue Feb 28, 2012 8:14 pm

“Stay tuned,” Stoudemire said after practice Tuesday. “Stay tuned.”

“It’s the lockout, man,” Stoudemire said. “The lockout really, it was to my favor to the point I had time to heal [my back]. But I didn’t have time to play basketball. I didn’t do any basketball at all. I played one game, that was in Miami, that charity game. That was the only time I played full-court basketball. The whole offseason was no up and down for me until I got here and played for training camp.”

“It’s rhythm,” he said. “Whenever you’re away from the game for six months or so, that’s the longest I’ve ever been away from the game of basketball, as far as going up and down and playing. It was definitely a rhythm thing. Now I feel great.”

“Every second half of the year, I’ve got a tendency to turn it up. Because you know how important it is after the All-Star break. Getting that momentum going into the postseason is always very, very key. You want to be playing at your best going into the postseason. It’s going to be an incredible second half of the year for me.”

Misleading title. Just says he didn't play basketball for 6 months.

RGM has decided that Stat is completely broken down, over, finished, done.

I'm not convinced, and I guess that will make me a 'Stat apologist' as this thread goes on. I can live with it.

This was obvious to anyone who chose to be objective about STAT

I'm not exactly sure how it's misleading, but I just changed it to make it more clear...

He needs his old jumper back.

Point. Blank. Period.

Alan Hahn said he's apparently looking to lose weight

It's the missing jumper that's really killing him . . . you could tell he went into the season very out of practice.

He looks bigger and he's sluggish, but he still displays that explosive first step plenty which is why I don't see the major physical decline some see. Amar'e hasn't been able to rise over multiple defenders in a crowded paint from a stand still for years. that was pre-microfracture, freak of nature Amar'e. most of his posterizations last year came when he was on the move and had space.

then again, Vince Carter still displays that explosive first step every now and then, so maybe Amar'e really is getting old . . .

I figured that he's been trying to play his way into shape all along.

It would be a good move for him to get a little lighter, however he does it.

Yeah, missing so much time will effect anyone and I've been saying that. Last time Amare missed a lot of playing time was for his detached retina. He got off to a slow start and then went on a tear in the 2nd half

Maybe he'll never be the Amare of old, but he'll be better. He's been showing improvement as the season has been going along.

Its not just timing. Him getting his shot stuffed by everyone in the league isnt timing. Maybe its his weight, that might explain it. Timing could have to do with his shot being off though. At the very least i hope he comes back hitting jump shots that he normally does. That alone would help us a TON.

been saying that Amare was held back due to rehabbing his injury. I expected him to be back in better form shortly after this break

It's nice to hear him at least acknowledge indirectly that he's been a problem.
