Lin best QB in NBA?

Post#1 » by GettinitDone » Sat May 19, 2012 8:06 am

Is there a better long-range passer than Lin? There are so many perfect 1/2 or 3/4 court passes Lin made in the season if you notice (mostly to Melo). I call them "perfect" passes because the passes are precise, that they look gonna be stolen by defender's outstretched arms but ball still goes through traffic anyway, and lands perfectly in receiver's hands. What's impressive is, of course, the long distance of the pass. It's NFL QB stuff. The ball seems to find its way to the scorer's hands. All the scorer needs to do is run, open their hands while running, and the ball just lands perfectly while the receiver's still running.

I think Kidd in his prime did this a lot.

It looks... meh... easy... but try do it in pick up ball at your park, 3/4 court pass when your teammate is semi-covered. I guarantee your passes are intercepted 50-70% of the time or it just misses your teammate wide. To have the ball parabola going down perfectly past defense and perfectly land in your teammate's hand? Genius stuff. This is one of the many things he does that makes us think like they're easy, but they're not.

@ Sixers - (1/2 court to Melo... watch as Holiday nearly stole it)

vs. Pacers - 1:55 (only 1/2 court to wide open Melo but ball still lands perfectly in his hands) and 5:48 (perfect 3/4 to Melo, just past Granger)

vs. Lakers - 0:40 (1/2 court to Tyson)

vs. Raptors - 0:57 (1/2 court to Tyson, all Tyson had to do was keep running and wait til the ball caught up and he put his hands up)

vs. Nets - 0:45 (1/2 court to Toney but still nice)

@ Celtics - 0:52 (1/2 court alley to Shump, just for show 8-) )

Not every point guard can complete that pass. Heck some great point guards like Rose don't even throw alley oops. I don't understand why some posters were saying before that he doesn't have good court vision.

Lin was lying when he said he chose his number to honor God. He chose it to honor a former Knick :D

The pass at 3:10 is the best one. The ball went past Amare, too.

Good effort, OP. BTW, the CAVS link is wrong.

That Blazers game was awesome.

Also prime example of Melo and Amare getting their shots, and no nonsense about chemistry. Both only played 25 minutes too.

Hurry up next season. :x

But seriously, that's a beautiful pass, also a smart one. Melo is at the better position than Amare to attack the basket.

Also, it's funny that at 5:20, Lin tried to steal the ball and the ball hit Melo's groin.

This is the first game under Woodson, right? I remember Lin didn't look well on the boxscore, sth like 6 pts/6 asis/6to.

But looking at the highlight, it feels like he had a really good game.

Thanks :D

I'm hoping someone will compile these passes into short video, title it "Lin QB passes", and upload it on YT 8-)

 That's why he was grimacing, and Lin tried to console him

Yep he had 6pts, 6 assists, and 6 TOs. 666 Damien Omen :o

Great post by the OP. I totally agree Lin may be one of the best passers in the league. One pass that constantly stays in my mind is this one.

He made this difficult pass with only one dribble. An underrated part of Lins game, he makes scrubs look like all stars. Give this man his money.

So the comparison to Tim Tebow never die?

Who is gonna be a better QB, Lin or Tebow?!

Who said asians didnt have peripheral vision lol jk. But in all seriousness I'm glad this topic was brought up bc I thought I was the only one who payed attention to that part of Lins game. He had a few more passes like that ( esp one to Toney Douglas that was beautiful). Now he just needs to improve his bounce pass accuracy and turnovers.

I was watching a couple of highlight videos the other day and noticed it as well.

He's excellent in the open court but his half court passing still needs a bit of work.

I think Nash is still better at making those kinds of passes.

Nash, Kidd, Duncan, Rondo, Lebron, Wade, Pau, Ginobli, Paul, Deron are all better at the outlet pass.
