Would anyone have a problem with bringing in Brandon Roy for the min.. Would be a nice 6 or 7th
Man off the bench. Also there's talk of the sixers using the amnesty on brand I would love him behind stat actually playing some defense

Regarding Roy, yeah I'd do it without question for the minimum. I mean literally the only negative I could see is his injury giving the team a distraction and if/when he doesn't play big minutes or a lot of games (because his knee can't consistently stay stable) we'll have that excuse. It's really just low risk, high reward.

And yeah I'd love Brand too, but there's no way he makes it through amnesty waivers. Especially considering he's only got 1 year left on his deal, so any of the teams under the cap could make a veteran's minimum bid and get him for that price. He'd probably actually get a couple of bids, probably like up to $4-5 million because it's only for one year. Some teams that would do it: Portland, Sacramento and Brooklyn.

Assuming we can't find a decent Amar'e trade and I'll be optimistic for this post's sake and say we win the union case:

1. Draft the best player available. We have no clear cut need and this late the draft the odds are already against us, so why decrease those odds by limiting ourselves to a position? Some names that could be available: Machado, Odom-Johnson, Crowder, Plumlee and Holloway. I guarantee at least one of those guys is there at #48. There will probably be someone projected as top 20 right now there too. (Side note: Try to trade Douglas for another pick, but I don't see it happening). I'll say we draft Machado.

2. Re-sign Jeremy Lin. Probably something like 4 years $30 million (backloaded?). The way it happens will most definitely be another team signing him to an offer sheet and we match it.
3. Re-sign Steve Novak. We probably overpay him if we win the case, but we'll keep him so it'd be fine. I'd guess 3 years $9 million.
4. Assuming JR opts out, re-sign him for a two year $6 mil deal (2nd year, player option) (idk if that's a legal contract, but whatever the max he can make without touching our exceptions, something like 120% of his past contract which would be around $3 mil but idk if we can make it multi years).
5. Re-sign Jared Jefferies for the minimum. Unless D'antoni finds a job this year, JJ will stay.
6. Maybe re-sign Landry Fields. But only if he's willing to sign for a deal deal similar to Novak's. Anything over $4 mil a year and let him go.

7. Sign Ray Allen, Andre Miller or Lamar Odom to the tax-payer's MLE. If Fields, JR and/or Novak are gone, Ray is the top choice. If Novak and/or Jefferies are gone, Odom is. If they all stay, Miller is. This is a little tricky though because I imagine anyone signed for the tax payer's MLE would sign BEFORE Novak/Lin/Landry. And if necessary, consider giving the tax-payer's MLE to JR. Hinrich, Kidd and Kenyon Martin are also options.

(At this point with so many different scenarios laid out, I'll go under the one that Lin, Novak, JR and Jared re-sign, Landry walks and we sign Ray Allen. Really each one effects the other because it changes out needs drastically.)

8. Sign Jamal Tinsley for the minimum, if available. If he's not, Keyon Dooling is another possibility.

Our roster looks like this:
PG: Lin/ Tinsley or Dooling/ Machado/ Shumpert* (when healthy)
SG: Allen/ JR/ Shumpert* (when healthy)
SF: Carmelo/ JR/ Novak/ Crowder
PF: Amar'e/ Carmelo/ Jefferies/ Novak
C: Chandler/ Jorts/ Amar'e

*Depending on when Shump comes back and how he's able to play after his injury, he could be up for the starting SG. Although, I think if we get Ray, he'll do so well with the starters that Woody won't mess with it.

Unrestricted
Nick Young (probably looking for/will get too much $)
Gerald Green (played well in his stint with NJ, like him if we lose J.R)
Johnny Flynn (as another "project" at PG, worst case he's probably better than T.D)
Boris Diaw (unless SAS wants him, can play 3/4/5 and does everything)
Chris Kaman (unrealistic due to price, but would be great down low)
Randy Foye (for cheap if possible, decent off the bench)
Goran Dragic (near impossible, but would be #1 choice)
Marcus Camby (defensive anchor like Chandler, replaces Jeffries--only if for cheap, 1-yr deal)
Jason Kidd (HUGE upgrade over Bibby/Davis, can mentor Lin, and make a run at a 'ship--$ will be issue)
Jason Terry (again, tough to pay him, but would be my choice aside from Dragic as a 6th man)

and of course...

Steve Nash

Restricted:
Courtney Lee (if Houston invests in Dragic, leaving no $ for Lee)
Brandon Rush (awkward but GSW has a lot of $ in Bogut and DLee)
Rudy Fernandez (long time NYK fan, DEN needs to pay McGee, and he could replace J.R)
O.J. Mayo (BOS really wants him, but he'd make a great 6th man)
Marreese Speights (MEM probably lets him walk, lesser version of what Diaw would bring to us)
Aaron Brooks (probably stays in PHX but would be a great young PG to team with Lin)
Jason Thompson (HUGE risk/reward, wouldn't pay him too much though--someone else probably does)

he had a solid rookie year , then didn't they switch to the triangle offense in his second year and he got injured?? ... then been bouncing around ... i think he can contribute as a back up PG

Flynn is trash. He is a rich man's Toney Douglas at best which is still horrendous.

I liked Flynn at Syracuse, but I thought he went way too high in the draft. He had a pretty nice rookie year because he had the ball in his hands a lot and played big minutes. You're right that he was injured and then had to play in the triangle which made him struggle, but he could've done better in Houston and Portland.

He's a minimum salary player now. I mean for that price, I'll gladly bring him in... but I don't expect anything from him.

Here's What I Would Do

1. NBA Draft- I would buy a 1st Round pick from a team trying to avoid a guaranteed contract(Memphis, Lakers or Dallas) in order to assure themselves cap room or hitting the luxury tax and draft Jared Cunningham. Our 2nd, Cash and a future 1st(would eventually become a 2nd over time) for a 1st Rounder. Cunningham has a very high ceiling I see some Westbrook in his game maybe not All-NBA potential but with proper coaching and if his work ethic stays at a high level, work on his jumper(H20) then I can potentially see him as an All-Star combo guard.

2. Re-Signings- JR Smith will likely pick up his option that way we can give him a nice deal next year since we'll have his early bird rights. Lin will be back, if the hearing doesn't work in our favor we just have to sign him at the max a 3mil starting salary. Lin is a cash cow off the court so money wont be an issue with him. Novak is a minimum player regardless of what most think maybe a bi anuual guy so lets say he takes the 1.9 bi annual exception. We have Fields' early bird rights but lets say he want to go to GSW and start at the 3 spot for them. We can sign and trade him and for Dorrell Wright works for both parties. Jeffries will be back. Mike Bibby should be back too

3. Free Agency- The one guy I would love back in Chauncey Billups but that wont happen so I would want us to use one part of our exception on Ian Mahinmi who is a very energetic big man to put behind Tyson Chandler. He was very raw but came up in the San Antonio Spurs organization. The other part of the exception I would love to put on Mirza Teletovic, who can be that stretch 4 guy for us off the bench, High energy offensive player even pick up a couple charges and hustle players. The last guy I want is Grant Hill who's not an old 40 mainly because his body(everything besides his ankle) isn't really banged up. Hill will be our Battier, he will add defense, shooting, leadership and be a great glue guy for our team. Keeping his minutes limited say 20-25 will help him going into the playoffs where he can really do work for us, see Battier for Miami. He will help Melo the same way Battier does for LBJ.

4. Trades- I want to move Toney Douglas and Jerome Jordan/Josh Harrellson for a proven veteran back up who can still log minutes. Douglas and either Jordan/Harrellson make up about 2.5mil in salary add in some cash and we can work out a sign and trade with a team like Atlanta to acquire the services of Kirk Hinrich, who played in Woody's system and will be a nice fit with Melo in the offense and provide another defender for our team.

Roster

C-Tyson Chandler- 9 and 11
F- Amar'e Stoudemire- 17 and 10
F- Carmelo Anthony- 28, 8 and 4
G- Grant Hill- 9 and 5
G- Jeremy Lin- 11 and 9
G- JR Smith- 10 points
G- Kirk Hinrich- 4 and 4
F- Mirza Teletovic- 5 and 5
F- Dorrell Wright- 6 and 3
C- Ian Mahinmi- 3 and 5
F- Steve Novak- 2 3's per game
F- Jared Jeffries- 4 and 4
C- Josh Harrellson- spot minutes
G- Jared Cunningham- spot minutes
G- Mike Bibby- spot minutes
*G- Iman Shumpert- Wont play until January, will be an injury exception. We'll have to cut or trade someone when Shumpert is activated.
