Tunisian big Salah Mejri (7-foot-1), who was scheduled to play with the New York Knicks at the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League, will attend a workout with N.Y. on June 18, but won’t be part of their Vegas squad.

If Mejri doesn’t land a deal with the Knicks prior to when the summer league's kickoff, he will join the Utah Jazz as part of their Orlando Summer League team, from July 9-12. Then, Mejri will fly out to Spain and land on the morning of a pre-Olympics exhibition game between Spain and Tunisia, on July 13

Tunisia make good its desire to be at the London 2012 Olympic Games when it dethrone perennial champion Angola in a tension soaked grand finale of the 26th edition of the FIBA Africa Championship for Men Sunday night at the Palais des Sports Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Tunisia Marouan Kecgrid led his challenge for glory with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assist, Mohamed Hadidane poured in 19 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and 2 steals while Amine Rzig added 14 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals with the new lord of rim Salah Mejri grabbing 15 rebounds to give the FIBA Africa Zone-1 side a well deserve victory

There's also Tunisian big Salah Mejri who is rumored to work out with us and maybe join the squad. I have no clue who he is. But he's tall and foreign. GOOOOO SALAHHHHHH!

Mejri was the MVP of the Afrobasket tournament (which I believe determines which team or teams can compete in the Olympics) as well as 2012 Belgian league defensive player of the year. He's a center that is known for his shotblocking and intense style. Don't know what that means in terms of translating to the NBA as, obviously, the african contingent of FIBA isn't exactly the strongest arm of global basketball play nor is Tunisia a hotbed of talent. Averaged 8.9ppg, 9rpg and 2.5bpg during the 2011 FIBA African Championships. 7'1" 24 year old that B/R lists as a "monster of a player" (NOTE: you need to take everything B/R says with huge grains of salt). But he's a very long and mobile 7 footer (same tennis racket sized hands as Mozgov) that leaps real well and plays with a lot of emotion.

Dallas is really interested in him...so can't be that bad. And considering the Knicks restrictive cap situation and lack of a 1st round pick (nor any method of getting another pick), if Mejri is willing to take whatever the Knicks can give him without dipping into their Lin fund, might as well.
