So true!

1 I'm enjoying Phil Jackson's revisionist "I never wanted the Knicks job" routine. He wanted it. Sent out multiple feelers thru 3rd parties.
I think Phil wanted the Knicks job too. The good news: Phil must have thought the tean was fixable, or he would never have considered moving to NYC.

Name me one story Bill Simmons has ever gotten correct in his life. Then maybe I will take his word seriously. When it's him and Tommy Dee as the only people reporting the same thing I tend not to believe it. The two of them pulled and incarcerated Bob. Make a blanket statement that you always have a way to retract or back up no matter what the outcome is.

If I am Phil Jackson I wouldn't want to work for James Dolan. Phil Jackson has 11 rings as a coach and 2 rings as a player... what has James Dolan accomplished? It's a fair question... and the answer is "nothing." All he has is his money and money is not the only factor in making a well-informed decision. There is who do you work for, who do you work with, what is the goal of the business, and how feasible the goal is. There are others I guess but these are pretty important.
No amount of Dolan's money would ever bring Phil Jackson here, clumsy roster or not... only autonomy would bring Jackson here. As exemplified by all of Dolan's conduct, men of real accomplishment and reputation like Donnie Walsh and Phil Jackson would demand autonomy in writing. That is not what James Dolan is all about.
No, this is coach Woodson's team now... all he needs to do is earn the reputation that Phil Jackson already has by leading this team to the ECF next season... and all this will be forgotten.

I cant really respect a coach that had the players he had and win 11 rings.
I mean is it him or was it the top 50 players he had on his team
I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.

The Knicks personnel outside of Melo really wasn't a great fit for Phil's coaching style and there were plenty of discussions about it. I don't think he would have wanted to come in unless he could get wholesale changes to the roster to better suit his style and I doubt Dolan would be willing to go through another rebuild.

Do you really think the 66(67?) year old Phil Jackson wanted to coach through a rebuild?
He would've taken this roster and the only trade he probably would've made is Amar'e for maybe Brand or something.
And Phil's comments only make me believe that he did want the job. It's actually pretty amusing because it seems that he's all pissy for never getting the offer.

Knicks, Phil Jackson not in contactUpdated: March 15, 2012, 8:05 AM ET
By Ramona Shelburne and Marc Stein - ESPN.com
[Excerpt:] "Amid widespread speculation that Jackson is Dolan's No. 1 target for the job, one source close to the situation told ESPN.com on Wednesday that Jackson would likely be "fascinated" by the prospect of "how the Knicks' (current) personnel would fit in his system."
The source also said that Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin was on Jackson's radar last season when Lin was a rookie with the Golden State Warriors, which fits with Jackson's longstanding preference for big ballhandlers in his backcourt."

He is definitely bitter but I think it's more with the Knicks not even offering him a job and he felt disrespected. He wanted the Knicks to bow down to him and treat him as the savior of the Knicks and that appeases him. I didn't think he would be coaching the Knicks anyway.

Then why did he hire Larry Brown?

When I say rebuild, I'm not saying from scratch. He would have wanted the roster "retooled" if that's a better word for you. The parts on this roster didn't suit his triangle well, Amare being the most glaring piece though.

Off the top of my head:
- Melo to the Knicks
- and believe he called Howard staying with the Magic.

For an old guy who has accomplished so much, he still sure acts like a petty child--he's not even in the league and he's taking shots at our team. Get a life.

Sheridan and Tierney broke Melo to NY, not Simmons
