PNR?

Harden is a Combo Guard who at his best was no better than Ben Gordon a few years back...Ask Detroit about that signing!

Yes, Harden has a better handle....but ask GSW or Milwaukee about Monta Ellis.

WAY WAY overpaid. I thought OKC was already generous with their offer but this one turns into a terrible contract instantly....IMO Morey can now legitimately be considered to be among the 5 worst GMs in the league. Committing 140mill. to Lin/Morey/Asik....I mean WTF is he thinking?

Good contract for the third best shooting guard in the league.

I may get laughed at for this BUT Lin is better than Harden, and they play pretty much the same position.

Yes it is a good contract. He can score and make plays at very high level, he makes his teammates better, and is only going to improve.

this is his shot chart. harden deserves this money. i should say that i am surprised by the amount of vitiriol is contract is getting but i am not. he is 23 and is one of the top SG's in teh NBA. Dallas Pheonix would give him this contract.

Since when does position ranking determine a player's value? Let's say the 10th best SF is better than the 3rd best SG (which Harden is not btw), should they both get paid 16M per season?

I don't know about 80mil. Let's see how good of a player Harden is when Westbrook and KD aren't playing with him

for those who don't know what morey is doing it is pretty fricking clear. He's targeting a group of players that excel at one thing on offense using stats. He's actually money balling this. But it's obvious. Morey is a stats guy. Harden and Lin are two masters of the pick and roll. Morey understands Lin is a beast in isolation also. So is Harden. Other players are spot ups/gbg men. mchale loves the pnr. Houston has no PnR bigs. .They'll get 1.

this is absurd. why is it that harden is the weak link. why isn't it lets see how good of a team okc is when harden is there to make plays for them.

No not really. Just saying that there are only so many good shooting guards. Contract values are relative. SGs worse than Harden are getting paid just as much. I truly believe he will be a bargain for the money he is paid. He does not have to be Houston's franchise player. They will add another max contract.

Also guys, remember that this is a league where Ty Lawson is now getting $12m per year. Eric Gordon got max. And pg is a position with an abundance of talent. So it is not really that much of a stretch to give Harden max.

goodness curry just got 11 million a year for 4 years. curry can't even stay healthy. derozan just got 10 million a year for 4 years. not much of a stretch for harden to get his paper.

This is a good deal. Plenty of teams would have given James Harden this same exact contract.
