Why we need Amar'e and Shumpert back

Post#1 » by NJ_YANKEE_45 » Thu Nov 15, 2012 12:30 am

I pretty wrote a lazy article on Bleacher Report on why we need them:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1398 ... to-compete

Here's the most important piece of my point:
"The Knicks inside game has been relatively absent. Coach Mike Woodson has been going to Rasheed Wallace, fresh out of retirement, but he has settled to shooting threes. Tyson Chandler is obviously limited on offense but should continue to get his attempts as long as he's healthy (had the flu in the second game of the season that limited him to 21 minutes). Marcus Camby has yet to play a role yet

The biggest problem for the Knicks is their rebounding, which is currently the second worst in the NBA. One man who can help with their inside offense and rebounding is already on the team: Amar'e Stoudemire.

Unfortunately, it looks as if Stoudamire is going to miss at least four more weeks and it will take a while for the Knicks to adjust him back into the rotation. They should start by having come off the bench as soon as he comes back and work him back into the starting lineup. A healthy Amar'e makes the Knicks a much more dangerous team in the postseason."

Please read and give feedback and your thoughts on the situation

Averaging around 8 per game is still better than what we've had. :(

Amare gonna come in and crush ****.....and I agree he needs to come of the bench and worked in slowly.

Cambys gonna come right in and help with the rebounding real soon so Amare and take his time.

I cant wait to see Tyson and Camby out there together. Our D is going to get better real soon.

I love Tyson and im not trying to complain. But why is he not putting up league leader type rebounding numbers?

just because amare averages 8 rpg, doesnt mean you put him in knicks total rebound will increas by 8,

by your math, since knicks avearge 103 ppg right now, they are going to average 120 ppg once amare comes back right?

i think it's his style of play. he goes out to help a lot on defense when perimeter guys get beat. when you do that, you're prone to not be around the basket when the shot is up, or at least given as good of an opportunity compared to guys that are watching for the rebound on the weakside.

Because we have very few possessions, cause a lot of turnovers, and take a lot of high quality shots.

There aren't that many rebounding opportunities to be leading the league.

It's the same reason KG's rebounding #'s dropped when he went to Boston

Our offense is shaky at times and we rely on Carmelo/JR to create most of it. We need another offensive weapon to balance things out. If Amare can come back healthy and motivated, he can give this team a huge boost.

He's grabbing less than 4 defensive rebounds per game, down from 6.5 last season. No excuse for that. Tyson isn't a 14 RPG guy, but you can expect 9-10. He's been sluggish for the past 2 games.

I agree with you NJ Yankee. Amare hasn't traditionally been any great shakes as a reounder but he's not terrible either. Plus the size difference should be a factor in itself.

But I think most people ignore in their excitement to have a scapegoat that amare is hard working, constantly improving his game, and very smart. He knows he's got to fit in with what this team is doing right, just like Melo did.

I think we see an amare who moves the ball, who tries to play some defense, and who works hard on both ends. We saw it in the game when amare came back from his hand injury in the playoffs, we saw it last year when he returned from his absence due to his brothers death.

I think we see a lot more of it this year. Sheed and chandler and Kidd will give him an earful if he doesn't. As will the coach

Amare is capable of playing decent one-on-one defense when he focuses. His problem is that he's completely clueless on help defense and defensive rotations, which is something the Knicks have done to perfection in extended periods this season. That's why you want him coming off the bench - we could use his scoring punch without jeopardizing the defensive chemistry.
