How do you figure?

Artest>>>> Both combined.

White=Brewer
Cope = Novak

We dont take a talent drop, and we traded 2 depth players (who wont be getting burn once we're healthy anyways) and get one of the best/strongest defenders in the league.

We are going to need somebody to guard the Lebron's/Pierce's of the world. Artest is that guy, and he gets steals which adds to our creating turnovers. To me this would be a no brainer if it was on the table.

You add somebody like Walker for situational 3pt shooting, he has proven to be a 40% 3pt shooter. I dont get what the issue is here. Artest is a NY guy, he would love coming here. And we add some more playoff toughness and another player with a ring.

We lose one of the deadliest shooters in the league, we add another volatile personality, put a wrench in team chemistry, and get older. I like what we have. I'd rather stick, and I have a feeling Grunwald would too.

Deadly shooting doesnt help when he is constantly gets beat on defense and on the boards. Doesnt help when he only takes 3 shots in 20 minutes. Its not going to help too much in the playoffs when he wont be able to find an inch of breathing room.

He is a one dimensional player. Artest is a great defender, good rebounder and a solid offensive player. WE wont have to make offense/defense subs...because Artest can play on both ends.

Novak doesn't fit D'antonis system at all, he isn't a stretch 4, he's just a wide open 3 point shooter.

So Marvin is a below-average defender?

Actually he is a pretty bad defender tbh. Almost as bad as Novak.

You need reliable shooters to keep the defense honest. Even when Novak isn't shooting, he demands attention. That itself is very valuable on this team, and would be greatly missed. He's not as easy to replace as you might think. Yes his defense is poor, but you can see he is working on that aspect of his game this season, including helping out on the boards.

No way am I ready to give up on him, and definitely not for a knucklehead/dirty player like Artest. Not to mention Artest's 15% trade kicker and next season being a player option. I just don't see it happening.

Lol...just another overreaction to last nights loss...let me guess...people want Artest because of his tough-guy image and because they want him to have Melo's back next time KG starts running his mouth...please. Artest would serve no purpose here when NY runs a 2 point guard back court, will have JR Smith, SHumpert and Melo all splitting time at the 3 and a loaded front court that provides scoring in the paint, rebounding and defense. So lets trade the 3 point specialist the Knicks have who in limited minutes (with a healthy roster) could delivers the type of bombs that puts a team away...all for a guy who'd just create a log jam and more drama for this team.

What a moronic, short sighted trade idea.

Not an over reaction but a trade i have been thinking about for a few weeks now. Just never posted it.

How does he serve no purpose? Who do we have thats going to guard Lebron or Durant come championship time? Artest has become a better 3pt shooter, and is making 36% this year (takes over 5). Not Novak good, but respectable enough to space the floor.

You dont need a shooter as good as Novak to space the floor. Anybody who is a 35% 3pt shooter isnt going to be left wide open. We are still going to have the floor spaced. I agree that its nice having a top 3pt specialist, but he is too much of a liability on the floor.

Which is why i said we could always sign Bill Walker or another 3pt specialist to fill that void. And unlike Novak , who really doesnt have a position...Artest can guard 3 and play PF. Im sure there are some 3pt bombers in the d league we can look to sign. Or maybe look to sign a PG untill Felton gets back. Delonte West is a FA if i remember right. He can make 3's and is a great defender as well. But he is also anothe rheadcase and probably wouldnt want to be a bench warmer.

What a short sighted, moronic post.

IDK how its a short term move. Artest is young compared to our roster, and is still one of the best defenders in the league (perimeter and post)

Brewer has 1 yr on his contract and is probably bolting after this season anyways. Novak does only 1 thing on the floor...and thats shoot.

Artest brings more to the table then both combined and fits our team. I can understand you not wanting to trade NOvak because of his 3pt shot like the poster above you, but to call the trade idea moronic is just plane wrong.

Why would the Lakers do this ? I don't think you'll be able to get a good player in a Novak trade, let alone MWP.

MWP's offense is much better than Novak's defense. MWP is shooting 36% from 3 on the season. Plus we have a gaping hole at SF, unless people want to play Melo there so he can chuck 3's.

I love Novak, but I would do this for Ron Ron, I'd be sad to see Novak go though.

Its Dantoni's system. The GM knows Dantoni needs personnel to run his system. No **** Dantoni isnt the GM.

Novak actually would probably be one of the most ideal players for D'Antoni right now. You can play him next to Howard to compensate for his difficiencies defensively. He'd stretch the floor for Kobe and Howard. Nash in SSOL should be able to get Novak the ball in perfect shooting situations which likely will bump his 3PT% back up pass 40%.
