As much of an excuse it probably is to say "he just wanted to talk" - the fact that they settled it on the phone does give it some credence. At least to the extent where Stern suspending him for it would be very questionable. Why does a player deserve to be suspended for wanting to talk to another? There was no fight, there was a phone call though.

Melo needs to embrace the hate and insults and needs to do what LeBron did against the celtics last playoffs, Pierce and KG were trash talking LeBron heavily and he shut them up by shutting them down on court with his play. Melo is still somewhat mentally weak imo and will not get any easier come playoff time.
