Steve Novak is statistically one of the better defenders in the league. No joke.

I watch basketball games. Novak is not a good defender. He's also the worst rebounding forward in the league. He also is one if the slowest and worse athletes in the league.

id love to get either Chandler or Artest on this team. Trade multiple players for one and then we can sign West and Kenyon. We go back to being a good defensive team and we can still run our same offense.

You watch basketball games, but you obviously can't read articles. Players thinking "I'm being guarded by Novak" force up poor shots on him.

I would offer the Milwaukee native to the Bucks for Dunleavy. Dunleavy can shoot the three and more importantly pass the rock. He is an expiring which gives the Knicks some options at season's end.

And these are the prime examples i point to that all stats dont tell the truth, but rather the perspective someone wants to get out.

Stats should ALWAYS confirm what you SAW, and in this case no one has SAW Novak playing defense on the level of Tyson.

Here's the most likely scenarios......they see Novak...they immediately attempt to EXPLOIT his bad defense.

But behold, they miss the shot, synergy snaps that segment, and touts it as good defense, when actually it was just a bad shot.

Even with Melo lately, anyone that is defending him one on one will be seeing their defensive stats go up, due to at times him taking a one on one situation as a "favorable" matchup, only for him to miss, but synergy credits the defender with the play, when it was actually just a poor shot decision.

You can't take stats for law, they should once again confirm what you see.

But as for as the thread topic....i'd make any deal that improves the club, Novak is not untouchable in that respect, imo.

that article was posted like 2 weeks ago, I already read it. That logic is stupid. If you think Novak helps our defense because sometimes a player will take a bad shot, then Idk what to tell you.

Fixed. Defensive stats are absolute garbage. They have Boozer and Lin as top defensive players.
I don't know why anybody would bring up defensive stats and something reliable or that makes sense. We should just ignore them altogether.

Regardless, Woodson has done a terrible job lately at integrating Novak. We need to play a zone when he's on the court.

This thread is terrible. Novak does exactly what is expected of him. We knew what we were getting when we signed him - a deadly catch and shoot player. He creates space for other players because you can't leave him to double. He gives good effort on defense - he just doesn't have the physical tools to be very good.

If you want to talk about the problem with Novak its that he isn't given enough looks. I've seen him open and the ball not find him more times than I can count.

Honestly, i think it's a reason why Novak hasn't played much lately.

Zone to me is a lazy way of defending, Novak needs to adjust to the actual scheme out there otherwise ride pine.

Does anybody here truly believe the Knicks just Discovered that Novak is not athletically gifted enough to be a good defender? Or that he is a weak rebounder for a PF??? The Knicks didn’t re sign Novak to become Tony Allen or Denis Rodman, they resigned him to hit about 40% or more from 3 and to help spread the floor for Melo.

That’s what he does, that’s what he is, that is his value. He’s shooting 44% that’s his job, can’t get mad at a guy for doing his job.

novak has a role on this team

he draws a defender, thats one less guy that can double amare or melo in the closing 2nds of a close PO game

for that reason alone he needs to be here

pretty sad if his only role on this team is as a decoy and to stand in the corner to space the floor.... if we can get something good for him id take it in a second, this guys rep was built off linsanity and its headed in the same direction :-?

hes only going to have that role if he actually gets open shots and can make them tho... and hes been iffy at best this season, at some point he does become brewer and hes going to be left wide open

That's no secret that Novak is being benched for his (no) D.

Novak puts in the effort, but he can't guard big men in this league. Woodson needs to adjust and either play zone (which has been effective at times) or try to put Novak on the perimeter. I don't think Novak can adjust much. This is on Woodson.

Novak is having a crisis of confidence

he cant get his confidence up because hes not producing on the floor and making shots

hes not producing on the floor and making shots because his confidence is shot

Novak has been a massive disappointment but I still believe in his usefulness

When Amare is posting up, Melo is on the same side and Chandler is lurking then having a weakside shooter who cant be left is a great advantage

I'd have no problem with Novak if he'd hit the friggin shots he does get. He's not playing because he's not even doing that now. Eventually defenders will start cheating off of him and he won't even be useful as a decoy anymore. That being said, trade him? Are you crazy? His one skill is extremely important to this team and his contract is fairly cheap

So trading Novak is the new flavor of the month, huh? First STAT, then Felton, and now Novak...until he gets his stroke back and helps win us a few games against a big opponent. You guys are too much.
