This is the Hip hop thread.

You may want to speak on them in the R&B thread...

That Blu and Exile album was really something else...had it in rotation damn near a full year and I still bump tracks to it periodically. His stuff with L'Orange is DOOOPE too.

Yeah man Below the Heavens is one of my favorite Albums of all time. Helped me get through some stuff and was extremely relate able to me.

Couple more of his tracks that I love:

Man F Blu, such wasted talent. That first album was truly one of the last classics, but his drug addiction took away so much from him. Watch those Danny Brown/Blu conversations and it pisses you off.

Tbt question of the day: Has any elite rapper been outshined on tracks more than Jay-Z...evidence

Last one is actually close for all three but I just wanted to add bc it's timelessly dope.

To get back to this from last week, it's important to note on most of these songs is that Jay was featured and not the main artist.

The BDKMV remix was a feature & he gave Kendrick added the second verse afterwards.

He got sonned on Renegade though and Jay should have known better as Em's verse is old and I believe Em gave Jay the version with his verse on it.

The Pump it Up "remix" was I think a freestyle Jay created that was a Budden diss, not really a feature.

Guess Who's Back is dope though, hard to say who won that one

Yeah that is an important aside, I think in general Jay goes light on his features...he doesn't even go hard on Beyonce tracks and she's his wife, you'd think he'd give her a real effort once in a while.

The Renegade one is definitely crazy because the Em/Royce version was readily available and Em didn't change a thing. Pump it Up remix was a back and forth thing...Joe did the track, Jay had wanted the beat and he did that freestyle, and then Joey went back in and backhanded Jay HARD.

Guess Who's Back is on some all-time near perfect ish to me. One of my favorite tracks period.

Very true, but damn his wordplay is pretty crazy. Like it's so subliminal that people just assume it's weak just because Jay isn't rapping directly anymore.

Some memorable tracks I think Jay bodied (off the top of my head):

Seen It All
The Hustlin Remix
his verse on the We Made It freestyle.
The Go Hard Remix
The Get By Remix
Diamonds From Sierra Leone Remix

The Pump It Up Remix had a dangerous counter-effect on Budden as I thought he could actually be a solid commercial artist. Instead by going after Jay, I think it held him back commercially and as a solo artist overall. He should have multiple albums out, but doesn't. Fab was the same, but then smartly aligned back with Jay.

Oh and the entire Scarface album The Fix is legendary. Being from NY too, I have deep respect for certain rappers from different coasts, especially Scarface & UGK from Houston, Outkast from ATL, & especially the West Coast legends from NWA, Dre, Pac, E-40, Too-Short and the current generation.
