FREE AGENT/Trade/Transaction Idea thread
Didn't see a thread for this. Should help pass time once the Free Agency domino stops, Summer League ends & things dry up while we wait for the season to start again.
New offseason. New players. New trade scenario & ideas to project.
Let the offers begin.

Transaction: Buy out Bargs. Gets rid of a guy who spreads a lazy culture, plays zero defense and only contributes inefficient scoring. Doing this alone will probably add 3-5 wins to our total.
Trade: JR Smith for Tayshaun Prince. They get some shooting/scoring and wing athleticism. We get an expiring contract adding 6 million to 2015.

I hear you regarding Felt & Chandler but for some reason, I feel like Phil has 1 more move up his sleeve once Melo is back. Maybe even using Bargs expiring with other players or something.
Just don't know who that target would be.

Do we have the ability to execute a S&T for Pau or are we restricted at this time due to being over the tax apron?
Given Laker's could lose Pau to any # of suitors without compensation -- I could see them potentially being interested in some type of Barg/Shump/Larkin type deal or some combination that moves Barg to LA for 1 year and they pick up some young pieces.

what's the point? without knowing what the main player (also the biggest part of the payroll) is going to do, who cares? Trading based on what? Just because?

Re: Trade/Transaction Idea thread (14'-15')
So I have been thinking for awhile now that the Knicks could run 'the Spanish Inquisition'.
Perhaps peeling Pau from L.A. you would get a decent start. Pau is obviously familiar with Phil Jax's triangle system which would do well in my upcoming teamlist. With 1 year left on his contract, Marc Gasol (who would like to play with Pau, which is why this setup might work) could try to force his way to New York to play with his brother.
At this point two players are expendable, Bargnani and STAT. One of those could be sent back. Would Memphis want Bargs? When I think of a Memphis team, I think about a team that beats you down in the paint which Bargnani will not do, but this does add an element that Memphis does not have. STAT might be better for them but would he clash with ZBo? Lets leave that to a GM to decide.
Now Melo is currently a wildcard, he could be a playmaker or he could not even be on this team, *we don't know at this moment* but what we do know is that if he stays, he will get to play the 3.
Polishing off our 'Spanish Inquisition' is Jose Calderon. Clearly a deadeye spot-up shooter. He will never be a defensive stopper but will you need him to be having Gasol^2 in the paint? Forcing long shots is generally a good thing. Perhaps we put in a defensive specialist at the 2 like Shump. Then you have great defense at the 2,4,5 and a system that gives you excellent offense at EVERY position. The Triangle is built for passing and every one on my suggested team is decent-to-elite at passing, so I feel like the system fits. In addition the age can be ignored in general on offense because of the triangle being a pass driven system. Passes will always be faster than running.
To put it all in a nutshell->
Jose Calderon
Iman Shumpert
Carmelo Anthony
Pau Gasol
Marc Gasol
Trades needed->
Marc Gasol for Andrea Bargnani + J.R. Smith(?)
Pau Gasol free agent signing.
Calderon, Gasol, Gasol-> The Spanish Inquisition.

This is a thread for the whole offseason & so on. Already prepared for the coming days.
Trade ideas for if Melo is gone or if he stays. That's the point.
If I had the power to just sticky the thread at the top of the page & let it rock there until posters get the trade urge, then I would but I don't have that power nor do I think any mods care to keep it at the top. Lol

this trade based on fact that Celtics drafted Marcus smart. Offer Celtics. We offer assets a draft pick and expiring contract. This is my version:
We send Larkin,Shump, next years first round pick, and bargs for Rondo. I think it's fair for both.
Then we send stat, early, and two future picks to Minnesota for k love.

Transaction: get Ivan Johnson in a Knick uniform or the best rebounder/paint defender the DLeague has to offer.
Trade: Phil has west coast connections & one of these western teams that want to wheel & deal thinking they can contend are pretending. So keep Bargs & JR's in the rotation to boost their stock. Plus we should win more next season so our players will have a higher value based off that alone.
Bargnani + JR Smith + top 8 protected 2018 1st to Utah for
Derrek Favors & Enes Kanter
I dont like Favors for the triangle so then we could flip Favors for draft picks or young talented players that are in bad situation. Gives us a big with potential and an asset that we can cash in on (Favors).

Re: Trade/Transaction Idea thread (14'-15')
Ian Begley mentioned we've spoken to at least one team about trading Amar'e.
I'll repeat what I said in the Amar'e thread: It's interesting because normally an expirers value lies in the fact that you take back a worse contract for it (but a better player)... I can't see Phil doing that because then you're looking at players like Josh Smith or David Lee... and to just straight up dump Amar'e to gain flexibility now, it'd definitely take multiple assets. But that could open up a sign and trade for someone like Monroe or Pau (for the massive TPE created by dumping Amar'e). Although I don't think the teams that have the capspace to take him (Philly, Orlando, Phoenix) would do it without major compensation, in which case.. it's not worth it.
The Knicks also talked to teams about dealing Iman Shumpert prior to the NBA draft and have talked to at least one team about trading Amar'e Stoudemire, according to a source. Stoudemire is entering the final year of his contract this season and is scheduled to make $23.4 million. The trade and discussions of moving Shumpert and Stoudemire suggest Jackson is taking an aggressive approach to overhauling the Knicks' roster.

I think Phil has 1 deal ready if Melo stays & then another deal if Melo leaves.

Interesting. I disagree because realistically the only trades we can expect are turning a guard into a big. And really the only move I could see him making that's predicated on Melo not being here is dumping JR for anything. Because he realizes that if we're actually gonna be competitive next year (with Melo), then we could use JR.

Re: Trade/Transaction Idea thread (14'-15')
If any team would take JR for an expiring, without us surrendering an asset i'd be all for it.
Examples:
JR Smith to OKC for Perkins
JR Smith to Memphis for Prince
I wouldn't trade Shump unless i'm getting a guy on a rookie scale deal in 2015 who has shown some flashes:
Example:
Iman Shumpert to Milwaukee for Jon Henson
I'd also explore the trade market for Hardaway, but similar to the Shumpert situation, it would need to be a great deal to trade either of these guys right now. But we do have a log jam at shooting guard and Hardaway's value is high right now.
Idealy, i would be looking to move the non-guaranteed deals and Felton TPE in deal that net us first rd picks from teams with luxury tax issues:
Examples:
Copeland and a 1st rd pick from Indiana.
Barnes and a 1st rd pick from the Clippers.
Besides Hardaway, your basically selling low on every other asset on the roster right now. I'm more concerned with stockpiling assets, especially future draft pick, to have more flexibility next off season.

I like whoever said Knicks should sign Ivan Johnson...I hope cole plays a huge role with y'all next year. Dally is not good anymore. I want cole to get the most mins for y'all and when bargs plays he plays at center
