Considering that Jason Smith is injury prone (has averaged only 55 games a season in 5 years in the NBA) and Aldrich has never averaged more than 12 minutes a game or played in more than 46 games in a season that they would want to keep Dalembert around for at least a little while. There really is no reason to rush dealing a guy like Dalembert.
Dalembert also isn't a guy that shoes up once every five games. He's a guy that is at the tail end of his career and isn't as good as he was when he was in his prime. Dalembert does what he does...he rebounds (6.8rpg in just 20mpg), he blocks shots (1.2bpg in 20mpg) and he takes shots that he knows he can make (58% from the field). He's a quality backup center, not a starting center and someone that you can't play more than about 18-20 minutes a game at this point.
What they can do is keep him around till near the trade deadline. Depending on where the team is and the health and performance of the other guys pegged at C, they can possibly look to trade him then. Productive big men are usually something that teams that are trying to make deep runs look for and the Knicks (assuming they themselves are out of it) can probably find a taker for Dalembert and get some sort of asset in return.
