Sadly, we have so many guys that can be X factors given our inconsistency at the 2, 4, and 5 positions (if Melo is the 3) and we should know what we're getting from Melo and Calderon.

X-factor assumes we're contenders. AKA who, if they improve, can can get us over the hump.

The fact is we're not contenders. None of our assets (Larkin, Shump, THJ) have the potential to become anything nearing an x-factor.

So the real answer is we have no x-factor.

But to answer your real question, THJ probably has the most opportunity to improve because he has the tools to be a great role player (great jumper, great athleticism). His biggest weakness is his defense. The great thing about defense is if you have the athleticism and the will, you can be an average to above average defender
And just like that, the lead has been cut to 8!

Totally disagree. Amare (if healthy) is our x factor.

He can put us in contention status if his knees hold up.

The way he played the last couple months of the season has given me a renewed sense of hope.

He's not done yet.

THJR because he is a rookie and has the most upside. Could be Allan Houston or Jodie Meeks though

STAT if he can actually get back to all star form

amare and bargnani
if either surprises up with sustained good health + good fit in the triangle, then the team can make some noise. otherwise they are borderline playoff team.
everyone else are fairly known quantities

100% agree with you. When JR's focused he can be the second best player if not for a limited stretch the best player on this team. 2 years ago he carried us for stretches and hit more game winning shots than Melo. He can score, hit the three, play well in transition, lead the team in steals, sometimes even lead the team in rebounds. As he is an above average rebounder for a guard when he wants to be. Hate him or love him JR not only has the most diverse all around game on the roster he is the biggest X factor. Look at his six man of the year season he was the X factor on the team. As JR goes so go the Knicks. It's no concidence that the team made a playoff run at the end of the year because JR started playing astronomically better.

In years past I would say Felton/Point Guard was a huge X-Factor. When we had decent PG play we were pretty competitive. When we didn't, we sucked. That happened far too often. Maybe the only thing I'll miss about Felton is Crazy8's videos cursing him out. Its a different system, but the PG still needs to initiate the triangle, control the tempo and be a leader on the floor for us.

That's another reason Calderon is a nice pickup. He's been pretty consistent and we should know what to expect so I wouldn't consider him an X-Factor. But for once, it'll be nice having a solid, smart player at the position.

This year, I'd have to say the biggest X-Factor is at SG and who steps up. Timmy, Shump, or JR. As much as I dislike JR and want him gone, if he stays he is probably the biggest one.

My nod goes to Fish. it will all be dependent on how he blends the talent and keep them prepared and focused to the task at hand, and knowing when to adjust accordingly.

D fish is the x factor of this team. This team is so inconsistent you never know which player will show up. If fish can get the team to be mentally focused to compete every game, than we will be a much better team than we were last year

The X-Factor this season and every other year has been STAT. This will be his first season not coming off a surgery so he should be healthy. It's unbelievable that to so many people Amare has become an after thought. He is without a doubt the 2nd best player on this team and on certain nights can outplay Melo. The last 2 knee debridement surgeries were done so Amare could have a longer career. Smart move on his part but it cost him his all star reputation and forced him into the background. Well ladies and gentlemen this is the year we get STAT back. Fully healthy, Chip on his shoulder, Contract year and playing for his legacy.
