Countdown to NBA Draft: Prospect Talk

Post#1 » by Manhattan Project » Thu Nov 13, 2014 4:46 am

The Contenders for the #1 Pick
Jahlil Okafor
Karl Towns Jr
Emmanuel Mudiay [Guangdong]

This essentially the cream of the crop right here, two big men and a point guard. Looking at what the Knicks need on this team my choice would be Karl Towns Jr. I think he will be the face of yet another impressive Kentucky team and he will eventually become the first overall pick. Unlike previous Kentucky big men [Noel, Cousins and Davis] Towns is much more offensively adept and has range to the perimeter.

Dark Horses for the top spot and I mean real Dark. This isn't the draft in which someone is likely to crack the top three.

Kelly Oubre, Cliff Alexander and Wayne Selden. I put these three together because their all on Kansas.
Myles Turner he has a long way to go but he has that athletic upside the GM's drool over.

There are a ton of intriguing small forwards in this draft, the problem being is that we seem set at small forward with this Melo guy.

Heading into this college season the team that Kentucky will roll out will be unreal and yet again I don't see many teams in the Nation even challenging them. [Sorry Mo] This team is seasoned now with all the returning players, has a NBA talented front court and has some serious weapons.

Arizona has some impressive talent and the size that can offer an entertaining match. Wisconsin still has the 1-2 punch from last year. Coach K has some talent, young freshmen talent that will log major minutes. Kansas still has talent, even amidst the troubling start according to reports.

It should be another exciting season for college basketball and one that more Knick fans pay attention to this year.

Knicks get any of those 3, I'll be going to a bar and getting drunk out of happiness.

If we can get any of three I would be so happy

If I could pick I would take Mudiay. Elite guards seem to hit the ground running. Okafor seems the most polished and Towns with the most potential but Mudiay is a mixture of both with a skillset that absolutely kills in this league(athletic true ball handlers). I think he's more of scorer then playmaker but believe he'll be great as both.
Also if I could trade JR/Jose for a late pick I really like Egemen. He looks pretty thin but he is made for us or the Spurs. I love this kids game.

First Carmelo ANTHONY, then CleANTHONY Early.
Next, Karl ANTHONY Towns Jr.

The Tri-ANTHONY Theory.
But it's way too early.

I think Okafor would be perfect in the triangle

We've done the multiple top 10 picks in a span of time game before. Frye Gallo Hill. That front court is scaring anyone. Knowing us we miss on the best player again. CP3 Love Curry in those years - with the last two directly before our picks. Some of our draft picks were great though - for other teams. Aldridge Noah Hayward. That's a front court that could dominate the league.

Out of all the first rd picks in the last 10 years, our best was the 30th - David Lee.

Just saying.

Gonzaga is loaded. Their freshmen are quite intriguing:

I hate to say it, but I think we're going to use our pick on draft day to trade for a quality vet.

I'd prefer, however, to trade JR Smith and Calderon in season for expiring deals and trade THJr for a 2015 1st rounder (mid/late) and have two 1st rounders to work with in the next draft, to bring in quality young talent here to pair with Melo/Shump and, hopefully, Marc Gasol.

If you recall, the '69 Knicks were built into contenders via smart drafting and free agency. We can potentially do the same.

And Anthony Morrow along with Reggie Jackson & Perkins for Jose, JR, Smith & protected 2018 1st

Four-Anthony Theory 8-)

If we get Towns, then we should go for Gasol... If Okafor then Lamarcus Aldridge!!

PS: If we get Mudiay, then both of them!! And we match any offer for Shump, too!! They can sign 1 or 2-year deal then if they want max possible money when the cap goes sky high or multi-year deal at slight discount, starting at 18.5M with max annual raise! Bigs eat more money to the cap, that's why maybe it'd be wiser to pick a PF/C... But at the other end, nex summer in FA there are more quality bigs than guards (with only Rondo, Dragic and restricted Jackson amongst top PG)

Mudiay/Shump/Melo/LMA/Gasol

Dragic/Shump/Melo/Towns/Gasol

Jackson/Shump/Melo/LMA/Okafor

JR to Portland for late first rounder in 2015. We get Delon Wright (bigger PG for Phil) with then!!

Wright/Shump/Melo/Okafor or Towns/LMA or Gasol

With that said... we need to tank heavily :D

The best thing for the tank commanders would be for Fish to keep playing Jason Smith, JR Smith, Amare Stoudamire, Prigioni, THJr, and, soon, Bargnani, all big minutes the rest of the way.

None of the picks you mentioned were top 3 picks. We have a better chance of landing a star in the top 3

J.R. Smith's last-second whiff left the Knicks with a sixth straight loss. But J.R. would do it again. "I think we went with the best shot," he said.

at our current trajectory, only Philly and the Lakers are near locks to finish worse than us (LA because of the brutal west and Philly cause they're Philly). It's conceivable we can finish with the 3rd worst record which guarantees a, what, top 4 pick at worst and a good shot at #1 or #2.

We'll more likely finish with the 5th through 8th worst record, however, unless Phil commits to showcasing matador defenders like Amare and Jason Smith all season long. We got plenty of tank commanders on the roster this year, so no need to worry :)
