It could be. You never know. Jackson hasn't exactly shied away from guys like Stephenson in the past.

The legends never do. They extract the good and shelter the team from the bad. Riley took his chances on Walker & White Choc & he got a ring. Ditto for Pop & guys like Stephen Jackson

Is Phil actually involved enough to deal with Lance though? Cause if not he'd mainly be Fisher's problem.

Exactly. People need to stop saying the word potential with JR. And while we're at it stop saying talent. Talent is consistent. JR is the opposite of that. Ability is the rt word.

Lance has it in him, though I don't like how his motivation is depends on what team he's playing for but still, he's Westbrook type of player regarding his mentality.

Anyway, while the Knicks are interested in trading away JR the rest of the league is interested in staying away from him.

So yeah, most likely not going to happen.

Trading JR Smith for Lance Stephenson? Could be great or could turn out to be an even bigger disaster. What I'm amazed with are folks that want Smith out because of personality and character but that also want Stephenson who is an even more abrasive personality and who also has character issues galore. Stephenson can be a bigger impact player so that would be what one would consider to be the gain for taking on his baggage but again, amazing to see folks that absolutely deplore Smith but pine maddeningly for Stephenson.

With all the talk about waiting for the 15th I wonder if Stephenson is truly our target? His name has been thrown around a lot. So I am wondering if he is the person we are looking at?

Not saying I want him but I wondering if he is someone we are looking at.

I think the fact that we're not rumored doesn't mean much. I mean look at the two rumored squads: Brooklyn and Indiana. Those are literally the two teams anyone would speculate as destinations for him (his hometown and his old team). Not saying that it's not a legit report, b/c Woj and Stein are the best in the game.

Not to mention Brooklyn ALWAYS leaks stuff to Woj. I think with a somewhat new front office (even Mills has only been here for a year- not counting his old tenure), the reporters don't have as many sources within our organization. The only stuff that leaks is probably what we want to leak at this point. The Lowry reports from last year were probably from Toronto's side to get more interest in Lowry. The news of the Tyson deal came right before it was announced and that came from Stein (who is known to have Dallas sources).

I think the front office gives stuff to Stein. He's the one who reporter that Chandler trade first, although that could have been Dallas.

But the truth is anything that's real stays quiet. Rumors are for leverage.

More available options after December 15.
I'm starting to think Carmelo and the thug agents he has, still run this team.

If you can't trade JR then just cut him.

As much as I want him gone cutting him isn’t a good option. It sounds like the Knicks want him gone too. His latest injury doesn’t help though. Hopefully something comes up before the trade deadline or maybe he will be dumb enough to opt out..

Trade him to Philly for a 2nd round pick. Anything.
He is a terrible locker room presence and a very bad influence on the younger guys after work.

FWIW, Beck reported yesterday that other team's executives told him that the Knicks have made every player outside of Melo available. So, I don't think Phil is just sitting on his hands. He's just smart and knows unless he gets blown away by a deal now that asking prices for certain players are going to diminish as the deadline approaches and teams get more desperate to rid themselves of who they want to get rid of.

I agree....I'm thinking that Phil is not trading JR for the sake of ridding the team of him like we all want to do. He's looking to make the team better by addition and not subtraction.

I agree 100%. Everyday I check realgm and hope to see JR is gone. Unfortunately I don't think any team wants him.
