Berman: Hardaway has regressed

Post#1 » by VirginiaKnickFan » Sat Jan 10, 2015 2:24 pm

Captain Obvious, the NY Post's Berman on Hardaway:

In wake of the Phil Jackson’s fire sale, it’s show-me time for the Knicks’ last two high draft picks — last year’s rookie, Tim Hardaway Jr., and current rookie Cleanthony Early.

Shockingly, Hardaway’s game looks on the way down, while Early’s seems on the way up. Hardaway is the lone Knick on the roster with legitimate trade value and is a pre-Jackson pick. Hardaway and Early are two of just five players on the roster with guaranteed contracts for next season.

Hardaway is in a deep funk, his shooting percentage down to 38.4 percent — 32 percent from 3-point range. It’s a stunning decline following his sensational rookie year after being selected 24th. Jackson exercised his option and he counts $1.3 million against next year’s cap — still a bargain.

“Looks like his game is dying,’’ one NBA scout said.

With Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith in Cleveland, the shooting guard glut is over and Hardaway Jr. can get major minutes. But because of poor play, he logged just 17:17 against the Rockets and bolted the locker room before reporters arrived. He was benched after a 3-for-9 showing — 1-for-6 from 3-point range.

Early will look good now, then we overhype him and call him a future all star, then next season he will regress, and we want him traded.

Rinse and repeat on all the knicks rookies. Timmy is still young, just hope for the best for him.

That's where you're wrong, buddy.... We have plenty of patients posting on these message boards during their down time at the special facilities they're staying at... There's no other way to explain some of the posts we get.

That's right. Jimmy Butler which many Knick fans now covet went through his growing pains as well. You have to be a little patient with young players, give them time to develop or not before making a decision on them.

Timmy was garbage last year as well. I don't see a regression, just an awful player.

Well at least Cleanthony looks like he can defend, rebound, shoot the 3, get out on the break and finish, and plays really hard...all Timmy can do is shoot and his defense is a complete joke. He's a 6'6" shooting guard who can't rebound for sh*t, he does nothing else on the court.

Hardaway is the exact same player he's always been. He reached his ceiling his freshman year in college. The only thing different right now is that he's in a shooting slump because he takes bad shots on a bad team.

If he becomes a lethal 3 point shooter, he can have a role on a team.

Thjr has more time to get it together... he needs to trust the system and slow down... shot selection will improve if he plays within the system. Defensively he must prepare his mind. Playing defense is mostly physical ability and will...

Tim Hardaway's number 1 problem is his shot selection. I wouldn't trade him.

similar to those that came before him, Hardaway will be on another team's roster before he enters free agency as a restricted free agent.

Pretty obvious. Still has time to bounce back. Lots of players struggled early in their career but the hard workers find a way.

It's not his disgusting defense, his nonexistent rebounding, or his low BBIQ?

you are not going to find anyone better than hardaway for his salary. He is a solid shooter on a good team where he could get open looks and he is not afraid of big moments when the ball is in his hands. He has a lot of potential to grow, I still remember last years rookie sophomore game when he lit up the three point line. Unless we need to dump caldaron's contract to bring in a second max player for next season, we need to keep him and hope his trade value increases. Marc Gasol already said he is not looking forward to free agency and will probably resign with Memphis. Chi already said that they are ready to sign Butler to the max this off-season. What is the point of trading all of our young players now, when there is no guarantee that we will sign anyone during free agency?
My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah!"

It's what happens when all you bring to the table is on the offensive side, and what you bring on that side isn't that great to begin with.

Maybe he could be a decent bench guy, but his attitude and body language shows a lack of maturity imo. No one likes the losing. But life is 1% what happens to you and 99% how you react to it.
