Why don't we ever have tradable assets? Seems like when never have assets for a trade.

No but seriously, how can a team like Phoenix have so many quality guards, pelicans good players, we have no quality role layers, or anything people would consider. We can't ever do a simple trade for a 1st rd or a good role player. We never have assets. What was the last 1st we received in a trade.

No point in complaining, just have to get used to it and hope management can pull a miracle.
Maybe this time around with PJ we might have more assets in the future.

It's because the Knicks are horrid in developing young players. Having young players on rookie scale contracts, or young players locked up in a reasonable deal then them blowing up during a point in that contract is a huge asset to getting all star players in a trade. Assets to me in this league is having an all star player, young players that are underpaid and has potential to become better, and draft picks. The only thing the Knicks could actually trade then if the don't have young players are 1st round picks, which was a problem that Phil at least has stopped from doing. The Knicks was built on trades and huge contract signings, with Melo, Tyson, Stat. Where were the young players that the Knicks selected or signed that were developed well? Fields sucked after his first year, Shump never came close to what alotta fans thought he should have been (and his game regressed where teams aren't lining up trading first rounders for), Lin was a good player the Knicks coulda developed, but unfortunately the Knicks didn't have him on a long term rookie contract, and was screwed in free agency.
Good teams sign but mostly draft young players and develop them well to be contenders. U can't make a team by just signing all these good players, u need young players that play beyond their contracts and are considered underpaid. Kinda like Draymond Green, Kawahi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, who was vastly underpaid but will get their money this summer. If the Knicks wanna build up assets, get young players and develop them well. That is why I won't be too upset if they sign young players that has potential long term, and then soon play over what they make and then the Knicks would actually have players that are considered underpaid.
