Outside of Chris Webber I wanted Spree and LJ and that dream came true. Although Spree took in a lot of crap from the media, and from some Realgm's, he was one of my favorite Knickls and has had some of the best playoffs a Knick fan could ever want.

Ward/Childs
H20
Spree
LJ/Thomas
Ewing/Camby/Dudley

Man I could only dream of having a team like this in today's NBA. We would kill!

Didn't know this. One would think that James Dolan was in charge of the team even back then.

 **** lowballed Lew too. **** is cronic with this team.

Shaq
LeBron
Vince Carter

Michael Jordan - when I was a kid, there was a Sports Illustrated that had MJ on the cover in a Bulls jersey, Lakers jersey, and Knick jersey. I guess he was a FA at the time and that cover left the impression in my young mind that it would happen

I'm gonna go ahead and date myself and post my long ass list of players who I've wanted to see on the Knicks. This is off the top of my head, so I may edit and add others. Sometimes these are great players, sometimes they were guys with a certain hype coming out of college, other times I just liked the way the guy played. I think the list trends towards guys who there may have been something of a chance to get, as some of the true superstars, well, knowing the NBA tilt towards keeping players with their original team, I tended to discount them, which is why not too many Jordans and Birds on the list.

Here goes.

Julius Irving
Yup, I be a crusty old dude. The ABA folded, the Nets needed to sell the rights to Irving to swing into the NBA (the $ required) and the Knicks were on the downside of the championship team, with Monroe and Bradley sort of holding on. I'm still a kid, but I know Doc is a legend, a street player, from Long Island, and I saw him play at the nassau coliseum and throw down a monster dunk sporting a huge fro. So, he was first and foremost.

George McGinnis
Rumored to come to Knicks; that weird ass one handed pump jumper. Ok, I was a kid, ok?

Tiny Nate Archibald
Great small guard, became available late in his career

Bobby Jones (from 76'ers)
You like defense? He had some defense

Skipping ahead some

Danning Manning
Hyped as another Magic, a 6'10" player with guard skills, I badly wanted the Knicks to get him. Then he blew out his knee and wasn't that good, so maybe a good thing.

Magic Johnson
After Magic was HIV positive but looking to come back I think there were some Knick rumors. Even though he was larger/slower, he was still awesome. Glad he came back and played as a great passing power foward.

Detlef Schrempf
Just liked the all around game and passing for a big guy

Tom Chambers
See above, only better

Kevin Johnson
Awesome small guard, real chip on his shoulder, really hoped he'd become a Knick

Cedric Ceballos
Not a great player, but just loved him running the break. I did tend to like Phoenix teams as a second team

Sarunas Marciulionis
Tough, physical guard.

Chris Webber
The original "I think I'd consider the Knicks" FA. Wrote Grant Hills playbook.

Peja Stojakovic\Brad Miller\Vlad Divac\Bobby Jackson
Why couldn't the Knicks pass like that? No to Mike Bibby. He looked weird and I saw his dad play as a kid and that made me feel old. Sorry.

Chris Mullin
He was really good and local

Mark Jackson and Rod Strickland
Local guys I tracked, hoped they would become Knicks, rejoiced when they were, then got my heart torn out. Thanks Knicks.

Lamar Odom
Hyped as another Magic, Christ the King and all that.

Kenny Anderson
Big Hype, didn't live up to it, I wanted him on the Knicks, glad we didn't get him ultimately

Ron Artest
F*ck the French

Marcus Camby
You know, wanted him BACK, before he was washed up

Steve Nash
Phoenix era Nash. I recall they had this awesome backup PG. He was coming due. One of the times I called it and said "This guy is great, just needs more minutes, I hope the Knicks trade for him". Got to spend the next 10 years knowing I was right and it killing me.

LeBron James
No explanation necessary

Ricky Rubio
Wanted the Euro phenom - Khan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stephen Curry
Followed in college, huge draft disappointment. What else is new.

Ok, thanks for putting up with the long post :D

This is common knowledge. I was around then and remember, from the newspapers. However, I think You can find this mentioned in "The Book of Basketball" or whatever that book that ESPN snarky dude (Simmons) wrote, and I think it's in Hahn's "Before you Die" Knicks book.

Anyway, yes, that is the truth. First knife in heart as Knick fan. If only I learned my lesson.

My pick is Kobe, I remember before the gasol trade Went down I prayed every night that we would get kobe for Jamal Crawford and any other dead body we had. Kobes hunger to win would of been crazy at the garden every night. Now I'm hoping we get Russell cause we got a chance to draft that type of guy.

Chris Mullin

It's almost unbelievable that Mullin never became a knick, instead him and Mark jackson ended up in Indiana of all places. :banghead:

Agreed. That just makes no sense to me... we never should have moved M. Jackson, just a huge mistake in my opinion. As for Mullin, him never getting a "I'm coming home" moment made zero sense to me. Even at the end of his career, he could have added something to our franchise just on work ethic, and approach to the game alone.

Kenyon Martin -- even though we got him in the late stages of his career, I thoroughly enjoyed every single moment he stepped on the court. He's been one of my favorite players since his Nets days.

Chris Paul.. I was really excited about getting him a few years ago, I still think he'd be better alongside Melo than with that Clippers team. CP3, Melo + Tyson would have been a force.

Yup. I was alive to go through the agony. I wasn't yet a teenager, but big enough to be seriously into basketball. It was heartbreaking to have him dangling there, and miss out. For a year, I couldn't stand the thought of Dr J on the Sixers and rooted against him, feeling scorned. Of course, I got over it, and was thrilled when Moses came to the 76'ers and Doc got his ring. (NBA ring)
